In the past two years Bombardier Recreational Products/Ski Doo has issued two strongly worded recall notices regarding problems with the ring gears on certain sleds.

The recall notice issued in February of 2005 was for 2005 non-functional electric start Mach Z 1000 and Summit 1000 which were identified to have been possibly outfitted with an improper ring gear which can fragment at a high speed becoming projectiles that may cause serious bodily injury or death to rider or bystander.

The recall notice issued in October 2004 was for certain 2004 MX Z 800 HO models and GSX LTD 800 HO models sold between August 2003 and August 2004 at Ski Doo dealerships in the US and Canada that states the ring gear may crack causing fragmentation and debris which will act as a projectile at a high rate of speed that may cause serious bodily injury or death to rider or bystander.

Interestingly in both cases Bombardier Recreational Products/Ski Doo indicate in those recall notices that there were no known incidents of this happening and no one injured yet somehow they have come to the conclusion that this very serious problem and strongly worded recall was issued.

I am seeking to find out if anyone knows of or heard of anyone that may have had this happen or even discovered problems with the ring gear before this happened to any Bombardier Recreational Products/Ski Doo snowmobile of any model that is outfitted with a ring gear. I find it hard to believe that it has not happen and I can tell you that this did happen to me, my sled was a 2005 Mach Z 1000 with functional electric start, was not in the listed serial numbers identified in the recall and I was seriously injured.

Any information pertaining to this would be extremely appreciated. I thank you in advance.
