If I were to sell a sled to someone who was approx 500-800 miles away how could I go about getting it to them for the cheapest possible without me personnally delivering it???

Id say box it, have it weighed and tell the post office that you want it delivered the cheapest way.....unless you can find a company who delivers products to that area from nearby to you and you could throw it on their for a cheap fee
vintage sled nut
I would say you will need to find a private third-party carrier if neither you or the buyer want to travel even half the distance to meet in the middle. I sold a 1975 Eltigre Z to a guy in northern Wisconsin a couple of years ago. A guy from Detroit-area with an enclosed 5th-wheel racecar hauler picked it up and delivered it for the buyer. I think he charged $250 from my garage to his. The guy had 3 other sleds already and was to pick up 2 on a trip that looped from MI, ILL, IA, WI ,MN, WI and back. This wasn't counting his own toy aquisition(s). This sort of thing is not unusual in the vintage sled world where machines regularly cross many state lines in a sale. The guy even transports hoods, as UPS, Fedex and Post Office will not even ship them. Truck freight like Roadway would be your only other option, and expect it to cost bigtime.

If you are interested, I will look up the number for the man who picked up my sled. He has a good reputation,. It is probable that, unless you have lucky timing, he would wait for a few more customers before making the trip, and that could take months.

I'd be interested in his number. I tried to buy a sled in MN, but couldnt get it here. Came close, one member went to Duluth and offered to haul it back, but seller couldnt get it there (4 hours). :banghead:

Try Mannings Transfer or Unishippers. I had mine sent with only a cover on it(they wanted to drive it on and off the truck), thru Mannings from MN to NH. For around $300.00. Any LTL(= Less Than Truckload) carrier can take it, as long as it crosses state lines.

Just make sure they want to, cuz someone like Yellow Freight would surely damage it.
I received the sled

IF it will go thru many terminals, thats a sign to pick a different carrier. :div20:

why dont you both drive and meet eachother half way it would be cheaper than paying the money to ship it m2c.gif
