I reside in Canada and ride in Western New York.
Want to know where the nearest place to the Rainbow Bridge that I can registar my sleds? Address needed, then I can use mapquest to locate it.
How much per sled?
Is it cheaper if I join a club first?
What time of year do you registar?
How long is it good for?
Thanks in advance.

Longspur, you'll be happy to know that you can register your sleds over the internet, try using New York State Department of motor Vehicles as starting point. As of now it cost $45 per sled to register, but some changes are on the herizon. New York State is proposing that unless you join a snowmobile club, it will cost $100 per sled to register instead of $45. Your in luck though, Western Ny in home to many snowmobile clubs. The registration starts sometime in August and runs for 1 year til the following Augest. Hope this answered some of your cercerns. Seeing I'm in Western Ny, maybe we'll hook up and I'll show you a ton of trails in Western Ny. Ever rode in Letchworth Park, its a nice and scenic ride.

Longspur,
Like Snowman said you can register online and I included likes to the forms needed if you want to send by snail mail also.
If you want to register in person, there is a location in Niagara Falls.
Niagara Falls DMV
750 Portage Ave.
Niagara Falls, NY 14301
You do not need to belong to a club this year and the cost should be $45 per machine. I believe the new registrations will start in August, so it would be pointless to register until the registrations are available. Good Luck

You cannot register a snowmobile online. You have to physically appear in a DMV office to register. You can get all the information and required documents online to print and fill out before you go into the DMV. If you are going to register in NY, definitely go to a DMV office in Niagara county. The Erie county offices are all closed execpt for the one on Dick Rd. in Cheektowaga, and the lines are around the block (litereally) with a wait time in the 4 hour mark. No bullshit. I just registered my wifes motorcycle. You can only renew a motor vehicle (car, truck, van, SUV, motorcycle) online. Sleds have to be done in person. Can't say why, but that is how they do it around here. If you are coming across the rainbow bridge, I think the one in downtown Niagara Falls is closest. Here is the address:
Niagara Motor Vehicles
Niagara Branch
750 Portage Ave.
Niagara Falls, NY 14301
716-278-1970
Here is the website for Niagra County offices:
Niagara County DMV LocationsYou may get some shit about not being a resident of NY, but I am sure it is different with sleds. Check out all the information at the website,
NYS DMV, and see what you come up with. I live in Erie county, pretty close to the border, so drop me a line if I can be of any assistance. Good luck.

No great loss here!!
When you get old enough to buy your own sled and pay for your own trips up to NY, then maybe you'll understand and respect WHY it actually costs clubs so much to maintain the snowmobile trails. New York has NOTHING to do with the cost associated with the registration fees going up!! If your new sled goes up $55.00, would you still buy it?? Thought so! Join a club where you & Daddy ride and the registration fee will still only be $45.00 per sled per year, though.

Instead of raising the age to buy cigarettes in New York, they should raise the age for these kids to post idiot comments like that. Kid, not sure what you actually own for a sled, but I hardly think you bought it yourself. If you don't want to ride in New York because of the rise in registration, then stay in Pa. and leave the awsome riding to us New Yorkers. Its funny that I personally know alot of buys from New York that would pay whatever to ride New York trails because the trails in Pa. suck.

Awesome trails? It says you ride in WNY. I live in WNY and have yet to see some of these so-called "awesome trails" you refer to. All the trails I was on last year, the year before that, and every year I have ever gone out have sucked. Mad whoops, huge holes... The trails around here suck. Never went to PA, but can't imagine the trails would be any worse. Even when I went to Old Forge, where you have to pay extra just to ride the local trail system, the trails were shit. The trails will always suck around here. Now we get to pay more to use them and have to go slow. The trails suck, the registration increase sucks, and the WNY economy sucks. Now that the West Side Stadium is getting momentum, all of upstate NY is going to suffer from higher taxes and less money getting pumped into the local economies of upstate. NY just plain sucks. Crooked ass politicians and all the focus being put on NYC and Long Island, while the rest of NY suffers. More of the same. That's what upstate new yorkers get to look forward to. More of the same.

What do you mean the trails suck?? I'm guessing you and your crew drive from Buffalo out to Byrncliff and unload there. Then you guys head to Strykerville, Holland, Chaffee, and Sardina area every weekend with the rest of the Buffalo snowmobilers. Instead of riding on the western side of Wyoming county, ride on the eastside and you won't hit as much traffic. I rode half way to Letchworth from my house before I saw a single rider one saturday. The snow cover down by Bliss was awsome the last couple weekends of the riding season. You should also never rule out Genesee and Orleans Counties. This year Orleans County got pounded all season long. One saturday I made fresh tracks on a marked trail in Orleans County and they had just recieved about 12" of snow the night before. Your gonna have to research to find the best riding in Western NY. The lake effect bands change all the time, so your gonna have to stay on top of things to find the ridable snow. Next season, instead of riding the same trails all day long, grab the bull by the horns and venture off to other areas. Western Ny can get just like Tug Hill on the weekends. People ride the same trails all day long and of course the trails are gonna get torn up. Your just going to have to be the one that leads your group off the beaten path to find the good trails. If you want, I can show you those awsome trails next winter, but its going to cost ya a dinner.

I live in Maryland. We have virtually no trails here. I have registered my sleds via fax or mail for 5 consecutive years with no problems by using the Herkimer County Clerks office. One week turn around at worst. The only problem I ever had registering in NY was when I physically visited the DMV in Lowville. BIG mistake, very unfriendly municipal employees there.
I love riding in NY and I have been dropping money in the club jars . I've seen lots of cool things up there. Feeding the deer at the Sportsmen, The Gorge below Tug, Lake Placid, the fuggin bobsled ride rocks, Charlies Inn, radar runs at Big Moose, great food at pubs in the middle of nowhere, the half pipe rail bed on the way to Mountain View, Tops Up Bottoms Off! My group goes every year and I can't wait.
We mostly go stay near, but not on Tug Hill and ride in different directions each day based on conditions and expected traffic. Last year was rough on the Hill and parts around Stillwater because the big snows were late to arrive and there never was any real base. I know there were other areas in NY that did have good snow because the Jan lake effects mostly went more south. I think the riding was good around Whitney Point and Marathon but I've never been there. Saturday sucked everywhere by lunch time but I broke triple digits on the dreammeter on more than one trail during the week.
There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding surrounding the new registration fee structure. As I understand it, the new setup was promoted by the clubs as a way to make sure more money actually made it to them for equipment, signage, and grooming, by forcing you to join a club. Made the mistake once of getting week passes for Webb/Inlet, got rained out the next day, but loved Lake Clear/Lake Placid. I'm happy to pay it to support those who make the riding possible even though I might only get to ride those shitty trails for 5 days. At least I'm getting to ride.

Snowman F7 last year i tried to find maps for the areas you mentioned.
The only ones i found were for Erie county and Wyoming county . Can you suggest where i can get the others.
We all know the trails are rough but who cares. I dont mind getting out and banging around its good exercise. I bet most of these area riders end up being some of the safest riders at any speed, because we have experienced some pretty extreme conditions.
Thanks

Longspur, try these two web sites; Sledsofstafford.com and HiltonSnoFlyers.com
Sleds of Stafford Club has maps for Genesee County and Hilton Sno Flyers has maps for Orleans County. PM me your address and I'll send you some maps of the area. Might take me some time to hunt down some maps, but this is summer and snowmobiling is on the back-burner for most people.
Wake20, my guess is to why New York doesn't copy Michigan is due to the fact that New York only has arounf 150,000 registered sleds as compared to 200,000 plus sleds in Michigan. I also might add that New York State are greedy SOB's and want alittle more money for a stupid stadium in New York City.

If all it is going to cost me is dinner, then I am the one making out on this deal. We will definitely have to hook up next season. I look forward to it. - Me doing my happy dance
