OK guys, I may have something here where either I'll make some cash on the deal OR I could get screwed OR we (all of us involved can have some RSS/HCSledder fun) can play this email game/scam as long as possible.......
LOTS of reading involved BUT it is QUITE interesting.......
OK, not too long ago I listed my new to me M-7 on a web site (www.monkeyads.com) for a firm price of $6800.00 and before you ask.... I like the sled, it's OK (not my old ZR though), BUT if I can sell it for this price I stand to make a few bucks....... (end result.... extra cash for a custom built ZR 900 or F-8/9 of some sort)
Here's the question.... and this actually happened to me on my last sled I listed on this web site as well (my 02 ZR 800 that I was selling.....) I just ended up selling it JUST before I got my first email VERY similar to this.... too similar if you ask me.....
I will be including two emails from this person who claims they have a "customer" who is VERY interested in my M-7 for the selling price of $6800.00.....
Help blow some holes into this/these emails and how would something like this work???
I'm still baffled by this......
BTW, these emails were just copied and pasted as they came in or were sent.... NOTHING has been changed......

Ok i can do for $6,800.However,i reside in london, you have to give us sometime to contact our client on phone,we have been trying his line for sometime now i believe is switchedoff,The amount in the check he deposited for the order is bigger than what should be paid to you, though it's meant for the total expenses which includes the purchase ,the pick up and the shipping bills. so we want to know if we shall carry on with that or if he will make arragement for another check ASAP. he is presently in japan on a visit.. Please get back to us as soon as you recieve this mail.

Just had a FBI agent come into my Justice class and talk to us about cyber crime. He showed us many examples of what is call the Nigerian Scam. From what I was shown this may be on of those scams. In ever example that I was shown, the buy sent a check for more then what was asked (that should be a red-flag).
One of the examples was some guy from AK selling a seld and trailer. The buyer was supposedly from Arkansas. The seller was asking 10,000 for the sled and trailer. He got a check for 15,000. Sent the sled and trailer down there and returned whatever money that was left after shipping. A week or so later the check bounced and the seller lost the sled, trailer and almost 5,000 bucks of his own money.
Personally there are too many "red-flags" that pop up when reading those emails. If it were me....I would not proceed IMO.

Yea, looks like the nigerian scam to me, too. Can they sled in London?? If you wanted, have them send a check to a P.O. Box, tell them there is a one month hold on all checks, once it clears, you'll ship promptly per their instructions. Dunno, I just dont deal with that kinda crap myself...

Definite scam!

I recently advertized 2, 2003 Polaris Super Sports on a radio flea market on the web and within 2 or 3 days received a similar EMail from someone in England who was more interested in me handling an overage in his funds to me than the condition of the machines (red flag).

I have since received two more with different wording but the payment of funds which exceeds the asking price usually means your about to be ripped off. I think telling him that you would have to wait 30 days on the check before proceeding would stop these obvious spammers in their tracks.

Dude, the next thing you have to consider is the shipping on your sled to jolly old England,do you think this guy could resell and profit?maybe sleds are worth alot of money in England.Considering the fact that it doesn't snow there.advise this A**hole to have his client buy a sled in Japan while he's there. I wouldn't even ship a sled to any buyer, only sell to local pick-up. CASH only!!! Good luck,Bill

If you get a cheque, make sure it clears, do not ship/give possession of until the cheque clears, but I bet it never will.

take the check
open a free checking account at your bank with a 0 balance
deposit the check into that.
This way if NSF< they dont get a copy of the check with your aba and acct #s on it.
............Lol, whos to say you cant just deposit the check then never ship them anything
