Im not sure how many are aware of this but were seeing alot of it on the trails lately....

If you have your Drivers License Suspended/Revoked/Denied or have Restrictions then you cannot drive a snowmobile in Michigan. This appies if your are Suspended/Revoked in any state that you live in and ride here... Just FYI...

The law is the law, but ditto. Hey, maybe if you license is suspended and you have a 13 year old son/daughter...they could drive and you could ride on the back!

well yea but we have taken a safety class, chances are if you have a drivers license and are over that certain age where you dont need to take the class(i think there is a minimum age) you havent and wont be taking the class.

and snowman, i think that you need to be riding with an adult above the minimum age or an adult that has taken the class to be able to ride with them without a drivers license or snowmobiling permit (not sure) and you wouldnt be able to cross roads, or at least just not legally(in minnesota you need to be 14 and have a permit to cross roads, I've been doing it sense i was 12, i got my permit at 13). or at least according to minnesota's laws. :div20:

I don't know about that One. I had to Surrender Mi License in 2003 for Medical Reasons Due to an Accident. The Person in Lansing who Revokes,Suspends and Issues the Licenses told Me I could Still Operate an ORV/Snowmobile or Watercraft anywhere on Public or State Lands in the State of Michigan with My State Id.

Is this like the Ticket I got for Riding on the Side of M-28 4 Years AGo,State Trooper Said it was illegale to ride the Side of a State Highway, But the State Snowmobile Regulations and Laws State That" A SNowmobile is Permitted on the Right of Way of any Highway Accept a Limited Access HighWay, Which According to the Definition is a Divided Highway with Median or One that has Limited Access by Way of On& Off Ramps Only. Took the Ticket to Court, from Seeney and the Judge Threw it Out. I guess the Young Trooper should have know both the Highway Laws and the Snowmobile Regulations,
State Law Precedes Over County Law. frech11.gif

Yeah if you are below the age of 13 you can drive a sled on the trails :banghead: but you have to have a parent drive the sled across, highways/roads/train tracks. Once you are 13 with a snowmobiles saftey licence then you may cross, highways/roads/train tracks.

In minnesota anyone born after Dec. 31 1976 has to have a safety cerificate to operate a sled anywhere in the state even on private land

i think that law is a bunch of bullshit! i can see if you did something wrong in a vehicle then you deserve what you get but just because you loose your driving privlages doesnt mean you should be banned from riding a snowmobile! thats a whole different sport! it shouldnt have any thing to do with it! all it is about is a big money scam, just another way for the government to rip people off! its a big crock of shit! if you ask me,and i dont agree with it!

Bigbore...

The problem is that a Snowmobile is a motor vehicle..... I had a woman this past weekend who was up here riding with her BF on the trails and didnt have thier trail permits. Well she was suspened twice for drunk driving... The problem is that the courts were having people that were arrested for drunk driving multiple times and they would just jump on a motorcycle, Sled, ORV, or boat and start driving them drunk as well.. so they changed the law to read all or any motor vehicle.... Remember the stories on tv about the guys riding their lawn mowers to the bar ?? lol thats what they are doing now....

The other issue is that people that get Drunk Driving arrests generally dont put insurance on their sleds, boats and orv's due to the high costs.. and if they were to have an accident with someone . They have no insurance company to go after....
