MY LAST RIDE I WAS GETTING 60 MILES PER TANK. I THOUGHT IT WAS MILD WEATHER RELATED. LAST WEEK MY BROTHER IN LAW HAD THE SLED AND SAID IT WAS NO BETTER. WHAT COULD CAUSE FUEL MILEAGE TO SUDDENLY GO THAT BAD. ANY IDEAS.

clutch alignment, check your motor mounts...

THE DEALER JUST PUT ALL NEW MOUNTS IN BEFORE THIS. MAYBE HE DIDNT LINE EVERYTHING PROPERLY. I WILL CHECK THANKS I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT.

Exhaust valves stuck open will hurt mileage.
So will lowering the TPS.
Stock, my 800 got 14 to 15mpg,
Lowered TPS from 4.2volts to 3.95volts
and mileage dropped to 10 to 12mpg.
Reset it to 4.2 and MPG is back to normal.
Adjusted the oil setting to use more oil and set
fuel screws leaner and valves are much cleaner than before.

Check carb needle and seat for wear or debris which is causing too much fuel in the bowls.

Make sure your Team Secondary hasn't gone for a shit.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN GONE FOR A SHIT. THE CENTRE BUSHINGS.
moparmatty
Yes. Try and open the clutch. If you can barely thread the tool in your clutch is done.

I am starting to get a little frustrated with the maintenance on this sled. I dont mind regular stuff, but man this sled has been a non stop parts replacement sled. Sorry just venting. crybaby.gif thanks for the advice.

check your airbox for carb sludge. if your reeds are not seating, it will cause a hardcore reversion in the carbs and you'll loose a bunch of fuel and some power.

Checked clutches for wear and alignment all ok. Checked carbs all ok, air box has a little slug not much, reeds were clean, valves were clean. Could it be a timing or tps problem. I have never touched my tps setting. Any ideas. dunno.gif

how warm was it on your last ride? if the snow is wet and sticky and your jetting isnt set for spring conditions I think its posible all of these small problems add up to really poor fuel mileage! Even with a tempaflow on my sled I noticed at 35+f my sled was slower and used more fuel then normal

my 04 xc 600 started using a lot more fuel and running way rich on the low end turned out to be the screws loose on the fuel pump not only leaked fuel but also filled the pulse line...
