My buddy has 01 t-cat. We were riding this weekend had he said it was making a funny noise it sounds like some thing is knocking on the lowerend in between the pto and middle cyl. If we take the clutch and move it back and forth you can hear it threw the pipes it sounds kind of tingey. I just had the lowerend apart to replace the crank seals one went bad and burnt a piston 800 miles ago. On another note my other friend has a 97 t-cat and his sled makes the same sound just not as loud. Is there some kind of problems with the t-cats lowerends or what. Any ideas would be helpfull. It kind of sounds like it could be comming from where the balance shaft is.

Thanks
Duane

Yep, that's what it is...nothing out of the ordinary. :cn: I would assume you looked over and felt the bearings on the balance shaft while you had it apart, but these things make that knocking noise.... especially when you rock the clutch back and forth with your hand.

But when its running it makes a loud noise not normal. do the balance shaft bearings go bad that fast it only has like 2000 miles on it. I saw someone elses post a while ago about a tooth breaking off the balance shaft gear.

Duane, I just did a complete rebuild on my 01 (3000 miles) New remanufactured counterbalance shaft from AC, all new gaskets and 2 new crank bearings. Everything else was in great shape. Put it all back together and still sounds loud to me. One thing I did notice was the clutch making alot of the noise. My ZRT 8 was just as loud. THere is ALOT of weight flying around in the lower end. My sled locked up on my and upon tear down I found the counter shaft broke (amazing that it did not rattle that bad) and the bearings came apart on the and parts getting stuck in the oil pump gear assy causing the counter and crank to lock. Luckly I did not do major damage. With the size of the bearings I can't believe you could'nt get 10,000 miles out of those. I have heard alot about the water pump seal leaking into the base??? I will be sure to run it over the summer and check the seal every year. Unless there is a huge vibration I would chalk it up to normal big block noise. Good luck :div20:
