We rode from home and headed up 14 for the first time this winter.. When we got to Craftsbury we found two things, first the trail 16 intersection was moved a few miles north, and second, there was a sign saying 14 was closed and to detour via 16 and 122 which we did. Question: does anyone know what's up with the detour? I hadn't heard anything about it before.

Crap, it seems like every year we lose more and more trails veryangry.gif

wasn't that trail closed last year also? I ahve not been thru that intersection yet this year. However I di make it thru 16 and 122 from the N. Stopped up to the witness stand ontop of the hill on 122 in W. Glover. Love that view.

Hey Rob, don't know that area at all so I can't answer your question.

I, and I am sure many other HCS folks enjoy your frequent riding posts.

My question....you did 8932 last year. 5162 to date this year. Care to project your 2005 miles?

No, it was open last year I'm sure..but they have relocated that section of trail 14 before. And one year there was a problem in Albany.

Also, we went right by the hill in W Glover you mention and it looked like the trail up the hill is no more? Didn't see any tracks..There is a new house at the base of that hill, we figured that was why?

I haven't been through there yet this season, but I know in past years that there was often considerable road riding.

I work with a Craftsbury resident and he mentioned earlier this season that because of a few anti-snowmobiling landowners that own land along the trail, they've had to re-locate a number of trails along town roads. I think there was one pro-snomobiling woman in particular who had passed away and her children who now live on her land wanted the trails moved.

He also mentioned that those same landowners proposed that the selectboard ban riding on town roads, but the selectboard refused.

He ALSO mentioned that they have some plans for the re-routing of trails for next season but because of the last minute nature of the landowners complaint this season, any major relocations this year just weren't possible.

Not sure if this has anything to do with the specific issue Rob mentions above, but I'll talk with my co-worker in the next few days and report back here.

You know Rob I believe your right about last year. I think it was a portion of 16 that was closed from the intersection of 14. However the hill I mentioned just North from OS 56 (16 & 122) was groomed to the top last weekend and I saw no house at the base. I even signed into the book on top along with many others last Saturday.

The house is off to the left at the top of the field-rode by there a couple of weeks ago and didnt see any tracks up either. Dont remember there ever being a book to sign at the to just open space and the view of Lake Parker...

Wow!! We can't be talking about the same place. I am not sure of the lake name but there is a great view looking straight down at the lake and trail 122 which crosses a road where there is a new gas stop which has been closed in recent years and then climbs a hil across some yards which are homes on top of another hill.. The trail to the top of this lookout is on the right just after you come out of the woods approx: 1 mile North of intersection 16 & 122. The book to sign has been there for the 4 years I have been riding that area, it is located at the top of the hill in a small box. They call it a witness stand. Many have signed in this year. Come on guys you gotta know where I mean it is an awesome hilltop!! There are usually at least 4-5 machines up there each time I go there.
