Anyone have any good idea's on a good setup to get a bit more top end.
my XC 700 is getting a top speed of 149 k or around 93 MPH on hard pack snow.
Raidar Run and GPS confirmed, Temps around -7 c. My sled is bone stock, track is picked with 110 Woody's Carbide Picks. Supper strong out of the whole up to 85 MPH.
What would be a good gearing setup to get to around 110 MPH.
Also what would be a good weight & spring setup on the Primary cluch, it now is engaging at around 3500 rpm., I would like to engage at around 4,000 or a bit higher. Max rpm. that I have noted threw the whole shift range is just around 8100 rpm. I know this is an older sled But it has run great with no problems at all. Sled now has around 4600 miles on it.
I don't want to really touch the motor if I don't have to. Only change I have ever made is to downsize my jets by two sizes as this sled would load up when at idle or slow driving like on trapper trails.
Most of my riding is big fast trails and lake riding and a fair amount of ditch banging. I would just like to be able to run at over 100 mph now and again.
Any good ideas of whare to start.
Thanks Blair

what kind of distance are you getting the 93?

mark your clutchs to see if you are getting full shift out.

On my 99 xcxp I got 168km/h on gps,
I had the following setup:
EPI black/10-60 weights , EPI Orange/46-36 helix.

With the EPI black, 145-280 spirng , it engaged at 4200 and shifted out at around 8000, I think I could probably pull 10-62 weights too.

A time testetd setup for that weapon using Polaris parts is...

62 weights with the stock primary spring.
A R12 ( 50/36) helix and the stock silver/blue secondary spring.

This setup pulls very hard and gives good top end.
This will only cost you the price of the weights and the helix which are both easy to find used or new. These parts are stock for 2001 to 2003 XC700.

Your jetting sounds right, 180/185 @ sea level runs well and is safe.

The stock gearing is pretty good and should give you near 108 actual mph in good conditions which will show around 118mph on the speedo.

Make sure your clutches are clean/in good shape and aligned right, use a polaris belt and set the deflection as tight as you can without creeping.
Adjust your engine torque stop tight to the motor when the clutch offset is set right.

These sleds fly when dialed in and are Total Anvils of reliability.

terez is on the right track, you do not need taller than stock gearing. Just some alignments, and basic set-up, clutching, carb adjustment (and not just jets).

Thanks for the info Terez & Ivan, I was not sure whare to start and don't want to waist to much cash on parts that don't make much diff. or don't work at all. I always carry my GPS as a tunning tool. Speedo is all over the place depending on snow conditions.
Thanks again guys.
