I have a an 02 venture 600. I am not sure what the maximum rpms are supposed to be at full throttle. I think mine is running to high at 9000 rpm. Any suggestions?

8400 rpm is best

I would try a new belt ,old one could be glazed or worn too thin.that may help.Clean clutch faces with alcohol and rag also.Could be buttons on secondary sticking or worn,not allowing an upshift. That was the case with my old Poo I used to have,maybe the same with a Yami?

I have a 2002 700 Venture that had the same problem, I took it to a Yamaha dealer to get pre winter service done and mentioned that the sled was revving up to 9500 rpms but I was not getting top speed. They checked into it and found that the secondary bushings were all gummed up, seized with belt dust, they said that the clutch was not shifting out fully so they pulled it off and cleaned it up and said the it is moving freely now. They said this is a common problem with Yamaha clutches getting loaded with belt dust. I am just waiting to get some snow here in Ontario to try it out.
