1. what size gas tank?
2. is oil injection available ? i assume is premix?
3. i assume walker evans shocks
4. am aware it is racing gas with trail heads included.

what sets it apart form 800 xr? or x2's

Pro XR comes with 5 gal tank, no kit available to convert to bigger tank, have to do it custom. Its premix, but can be fitted with oil injection using pro x parts. Walker evans shocks all the way around, valved pretty stiff with high spring rates. Comes with HC heads, but can buy LC heads from Polaris to convert to run 92 octane fuel.

I have both an '04 440 and a '04 pro x2 600. Handle bar position on pro xr is much further forward then x2 is. Makes it a lot better sled to stand up on in the big bumps. X2 is basically a toned down version of xr 440 for trail use. Uses WE shocks but set up way softer then xr. Obvisiouly x2 has oil injection and full gauges which xr does not. The 800 Pro XR is somewhere in between the x2 and XR 440 racer. Still has oil injection and full gauges but does not have steering post as far forward and shocks are still just a little softer then xr 440.

the xr 800 bars are forward the same as an xr. The 800 model looks the same (excpe orange) but basically like someone took an xr 440 revalved the shocks and dropped in a 800 prox motor.

The 2004 Pro XR 440 racer has way different ergo's then the 800XR. The 440's handlebars are alot farther forward then the 800's. The steering post on the 440 actually goes over the engine rather then under. It's hood and belly pan are alot shorter. The toe holds are way different. They are so far forward that the chaincase actually sticks out into the left one. The steering hoop is completely different to allow for the rider forward positioning. The only thing they really share is the lack of swaybar and the seat. It's defenitely not a 440 XR with an 800 dropped into it. It would however be alot like a 2003 Pro X 440 with an 800 dropped in it. :cn:

eightpilot has it right. If the 800 xr and 440 were the same then you could simply run an 800s big tank on the '04 440 for the trail. The drastically different steering hoop is the reason for the big tank conversion problems on the '04. Basically the '04 440 has a chassis a little different then any other pro x that was ever produced.

i was told that my 04 pro xr 800 is actually the 03 440 race chassis (left over from the race teams)

I do believe the 800 XR is exactly the same as the '03 race chassis. Doubt if it was their left overs cause they only produce 500 440s, unlikely they had extras lying around.
eightpilot
Your both right. The 800 XR is the identical chassis thats found on the '03 440 racer. But the '04 XR 440 racer chassis is completely different. The '03 440 and '04 XR 800 chassis is much more trail friendly. IMO

Yes, it is true that the XR 800's are replica 03 440 chassis with a different paint job, different color seat, 800 motor and big tank.

well with no iq race sleds for the consumer it looks like i will have to keep the xr 800 for another season ! or untill i can get my hands on a 05 iq 440 !!
