Hey guys, I rode my sled yesterday, and I started it this morning and went down to the lake real quick, probably a 10 minute ride. I came back to the house and shut it off for about 20 minutes. When I went to start it, it would not start. It had no signs of starting. It had compression and the plugs were fine, key was in, kill switch was up. I tryed checking for spark, by taking out the plugs and putting them in the caps and trying to start it, but i couldnt see any spark...it was very light out though and hard to tell. The engine was getting fuel because I could smell it flooding. I tryed it with choke on, half way, and off. Then I tryed it WOT. NOTHIN!!! I even sprayed a spray of starter fluid in each cylinder. After a few hours of trying to get the thing started I jsut towed it into my garage. PLEASE HELP ME!!!
P.S. If anybody has a Y-pipe they're looking to get rid of it, please PM me, I noticed mine has a small crack in it
BTW, my sled jsut hit over 8,000 miles!!!

What happened when u used the starting fluid???
Also check compression on each cylinder. if low compression on a cylinder you may have messed up a cylinder.
Double check to make sure your still getting spark as well and hope for the best.

No bite at all when I used the starter fluid, and it seemed both cylinders had plenty of compression when I put my thumbs over them and pulled it over a couple times. I don't have an actual compression tester. I think I'm not getting spark, i checked by puttin the plug in the cap and puttin it on metal, and it didn't look like any spark, but it was hard to tell because it was sunny out. If it doesn't have spark, how do I fix that? Thanks

It sounds to me like your safety kill button cord attachment might be the source of your problem!!!!

make sure the plugs are gap to.018''
sounds like you have no spark
start with the easier stuff first kill switch, broken wire to switch, coil, motor
wires like to rub under handle bar cover
take the air box off exposes the coil check wires there
check connections to the mpem
then get into the recoil to check the ignition coil and trigger.
good luck electrical sucks!

I had the same problem I went out one night and the next night I tried starting it and couldn't get it started so i poured a little gas where the spark plugs go and it started right up. Once I get it going and shut it off it will start right up but if it sits for more than an hour i will have to put gas in the cylinders again. Any answers

there is no key on the 99 mxz 600. it has DESS.
make sure the DESS tether is seated firmly in position then replace both spark plugs. (mine seems to foul plugs easy)
i bet it fires right up then.

Just a side note, you shouldn't use starter fluid on a 2stroke.. First things first though, verify spark (wait until dark?)

Kill switch may be frozen if left out at night and any moisture got in there, had it happen to me twice ---put hair dryer or warm water on switch and try that. i used hair dryer for 15 minutes and started right up ---might be easy fix?

check you ignition w/ an ohm tester.unlpug the stator from mpem - test out put in the triangle plug-blk & blk/red wires, should zero out.next test pick up from the small 2 wire plug in mpem .you can test power to coil if you remove air box.------- p.s. sometimes I hold the plug to check for spark. It's the best feeling when you feel it spark !

hahahahh just put your tounge right on the plug and have your buddy pull it, then there will be no ? if your getting spark or not, lol i would test the coil, dunno if the dess models have a CDI box or if it uses the brain for that, but sounds like an electrical problem to me... good luck get a manual and a voltmeter and start checking stuff out also check some of the wires ( kill switch, teather, ignition) and conectors, if their is green s*it on the connectons could be as simple as corrosion! good luck,
