We rode today from Barre on 302 to Groton. There was 2 to 3 feet of snow and only one track. No grooming of course as that might interfere with the groomer operators drinking time. If you got the slightest bit out of the track you were screwed as the bottomless sides sucked you right in. Not fun.

I was riding with my 80 year old father in law and the two of us couldn't get it out so he left to find a shovel. Two guys on Revs came along and helped me get mine out and 100 yards later one of them put his off the trail and I got to help him out.

The ride back was a little better as more riders had been over the trail and while very bumpy you could keep it in the trail. Still no groomer. Buzz was grooming but they didn't get as much snow over there and the groom wasn't holding. Oh ya, We ran into the Rev riders at the Upper Valley Grill and the other one of them had gone off the trail hit a rock and smashed his front suspension up. Broke the lower ball joint and bent stuff. They tied it together with a tie down and limped it out. Not a nice day. We realy miss that base that melted away.

Atleast you got some snow! We havent got snow in ages it seems like. Once your groomers go out, which im surprised there not allready out the trails will kickass im sure

i wish i had snow like that around here. the trails suck down here. i would love to be out there even if i got stuck thats half the fun. maybe not with your father in law but me personally i would be going ditchbanging in those gullies. :drunk:

haha getting stuck ain't fun when you are alone. good thing you had a few guys help you, also in these 2 pics it wasn't that hard to get out since we had a group

i'm guessing the powder just sucks you right in if you make one wrong move, i know what ya mean lol, here's a pic of my friend stuck

Don't you guys stand, lean and carve in snow like that?

We don't ever get to ride in snow like this. My 2003 Yammi had 3600 miles on it and this is the first time it has been in real powder. The rider who cut the first track was a young dude with a 900 ZR, we met him coming the other way at a locked gate. We were forced into his track and even if I could (and I can't) ditch bangin wasn't an option here as the ditches are full of rocks, boulders and logs and with no bottom you would hit them all.

I am in awe of the western mountain powder riders but I now know I could not ride like that.

steep and deep
sael youl`d be amazed at what a few days of experience in deep powder would do for your skills. I think you would do better than you think. it`s really not to hard to get unstuck either. pack a path in front of the sled -pack a spot next to the sled to set the track onto - have someone pull lightly on one ski - ease on the throttle and out you come. you`d be looking for something deeper. Glad you got a chance to experience it.

haha it's kinda hard but we were riding around by me and it's fields with ditches everywhere, we were on a dirt road and snow was blowin like crazy so the ditches got filled in, you couldn't tell where the ditches are, one wrong move and your stuck. :banghead:
yo momma
You west coast boys don't realize that the higher humidity makes the snow much heavier and thicker here in the east. I used to live out west and getting stuck here ain't like getting stuck out there. It's a whole different ballgame, same technique to extract but a ton more effort required, NO FUN!

We got a lotta snow but I saw one trail a groomer went over and he just left a trail of goo, muck and slush behind him...........YUK!

It was Mud season around here two days ago before this last dump fell. The trails had minimal base so I went skiing today and enjoyed big Pow! Back to the slopes tomorrow as conditions were some of the best I've ever seen in Vermont! If you're a skier, slap on the boards and park the sled till the temp drops and this stuff has a chance to set up before riding again. (Temps dropped and riding looks much better today 2/12/05)

Just my $.02

One more thing. I'm a native New Yorker and I know PIZZA! If you're ever driving through Lyndonville HWY 91 Exit 23, stop by the Trout River Brewery (Rte.5)Fri and Sat (only) between 4:30 and 8:30pm for the BEST PIZZA IN THE STATE, PERIOD! Good beer too, try the multibeer sampler for a nice treat. Plenty of room for trailers, fun place, low key, cheap, place with decks of cards so you can play while you wait! Dan brews the beer and cooks the pizza! :div20:
