Anyone have any updated info on the Newport/Jay/Derby area?? Heading that way tomorrow for the weekend and was wondering where there would be good riding with the lack of snow. Also does anyone know if they are still having there Poker Run on Saturday?

Have not heard about the kingdom but I know that the trails are still pretty good around plymouth, shrewsbury etc. I came across some guys at the Bridgewater corners store the other day who rode up from arlington. They said that the trails are still pretty good but there are some bare spots in the sun. We put on 220 last weekend in the frigid cold but it was some of the best riding. Went to the Long Trail brewery for lunch. Great pub food.

The funniest thing.
I called Long Trail Brewery like 2 weeks ago.
I was going to plan a ride there sometime this season.

The guy at Long Trail told me (I called) that the trail didnt go to the restaurant. In fact, he stated it wasnt even within 1 mile of there...... ??????? :frech32:

Orleans County conditions have not been updated since the 29th. Newport/Derby area has been "thin" on my two recent trips thru there.

Have not been to Jay are but understand from riders in that area, they are pretty good.

Amazing that 10 or so miles makes such a significant difference in snow depth and conditons.

Rumor has it, that our unusual conditions this "winter" were caused by the BoSox winning the World Series. Could not/would not happen until "hell froooooooze over". Well, it happened and poor conditions existing in some areas are directly related to disinfranchised Yankee fans living in those area.

Conditions in Newport/Derby/Jay are very thin, and the warm sunshine today is taking its toll. Heavily traveled trails are showing lots of snirt. Went from Derby through Newport Center, Troy and Jay to Montgomery last Saturday. Conditions were surprisingly good in the valley. Going over Richford Mt. was a different story. It had been groomed on the Jay side but there was quite a bit of ice and several deep waterbars. West of the height of land it got much worse all the way to Montgomery. The return trip from Montgomery over Hazens Notch was much better. Going east from the Newport/Derby area looks to be better although by last Sunday I heard that trails in the Island Pond/Norton/Canaan area were really beaten.

The trail does go very close to there. As a matter of fact you cross the road right across from the brewery. Just like you are going to the Bridgewater Corner Store. Mobil. You actually have to take a right hand turn as you are going south on 12S. It kind of cuts back at a 90 degree angle and you will know that you are at the right one as the sign on your left is bent over. You actually come down a section of roadway, gravel before you come upon it. If you come to the Bridgewater school you have gone too far. Turn around and go back to your second secondary, orange trail on your left. You can not miss it. Get the cheese steak and onion rings. A Hibernator is a great choice to wash it down. Only one though.
