time for people to SLOW down.
2 accidents on sunday.
rescue crews out in full force.
Speed definately a factor in both.
1 guy wrecked his sled.
the other guy left the trail on a stretcher.
then later than afternoon, I gave 1 guy the signal to slow down, as he was coming up on me.. on my side of the trail!! he got all pissy and gave me the finger, when he's on my side of the trail !!!!
WTF is wrong with some people !!
we are not in the woods alone!!
pay attention to ever changing conditions !
show some respect to people riding in big groups with kids!!
first time I ever personally saw the results of an accident. wasn't a pretty site.
the rescue crews were amazing, and fully equiped.
A large group of rescue sleds all properly equiped, with a 4 wheeler ATV with tracks at each wheels.
good to know the rescue people are there, but wasn't a pretty site to see....

I had a guy pass me on a trail Sunday which was bad enough(we are talking 10 foot wide trail). His 16 year old son passed me which was worse. The the best, his (what looked to be) 10 year old on a 500 passed me on a blind curve. We saw them at a pond along the way with their helmets off. I could not believe this kid went buy me. I followed them for miles to see if they would stop. I wanted to say to him that if he doesn't have respect for his life, he shouldn't teach his young son the same thing.
I love to snowmobile, but I'm going home alive, period.

It seems these stories of close calls gets worse every year! I think what people need to do is start using they're heads! This is the reason I ride mostly during the week during my vacation's. When you have good running and no traffic I like to roll right along. When I'm in the woods I SLOW DOWN! I like the law vermont used to use, reasonable and prudent manner!

277 miles in northern vermont last weekend. 3 situations with me obviously going the wrong way on somebodys private one way trail ????? :frech32:Over the years I have been forced off trail, sideswiped, scared shitless by people on the wrong side of the trail. I will not let my wife or kids ride trails as i do not think they could react in time (sad state of affairs for a sport I wanted my family involved in.) I was hit by a drunk head-on on my sled a few years ago ( i quit for 2 seasons) so I am very paranoid and ride very right and slow when it is blind. I can still see him coming !!!!!!!! and feel and hear the impact. I remember thinking oh no this is going to HURT. nowhere to go ouch...... The trail cowboys scare me, I try and ride only weekdays and early am to avoid them. This problem is huge !!!!!! It is a shame because most snowmobilers are considerate and like always a few bad apples are ruining it for others. These people could not get away with it on the highway. What I do instead of confronting them, if I can I get the reg # and report them, I don't know if it makes a difference but it is all I can legally do. Lets all see what we can do to make this better. ride safe ride right

damm...thats some scary stuff
we like to ride fast...and we do...but, we always keep to our side of the trail, and we always slow down when other sleds are comming our way, and use our hand signals
i see a LOT of guys that ride as hard as we do...but..ride on the wrong side....never slow down when they come across other sleds..and dont bother to use hand signals
this is the main reason we ride durring the week, or at night
also, if we really knew how many of these morons were drinking.. we would all be very scared

My husband was a victim of one accident that took place near Jenks on Sunday, January 30th. Speed and the inability to control a snowmobile FROM an oncoming inexperienced rider were the cause of his severe injuries.
It took search and rescue almost 2 hours to find him as he waited in extreme pain. Once they arrived they did the best they could to comfort him and tend to his injuries. We are graetful for them.
We spent 11 hours at a local hospital as the doctors did their best to assess and fix his injuries and they were wonderful to us.
My husband is still in extreme pain and suffers nightmares of the crash every night. He didn't deserve this to happen to him. We, as first time expectant parents, did not deserve this stress during what is to be a wonderful time in our lives.
I believe that people who chose to speed and drive out of control never realize the consequences of their actions. They believe it will never happen to them. All I know is no one is invincible.
I could have lost my husband on Sunday. My unborn child could have lost his father.
If you want to speed, find a track to do it on. Leave the trails for families and responsible riders who value their lives and know how to respect the sport.
SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!

Its been the same story up in Canada. No snow down south so they are all up there going WFO. It really ticks me off to see people going wide open on public trails! I lead quite often up there specially when friends go up. When your in the lead you are a moving target for these buttheads. I have been almost tagged at least 4 times that I can think of this year. Not to mention all of the broken sled parts that litter the trails this year. I have also noticed all the tracks that go off the trail into the trees. This has to get expensive for these fools! If they would just slow down they would enjoy the ride a ton more! :banghead:

I'm considering a heavy duty front bumper, like an SUV push bar molded for my sled.

I am always the guy you see with my right ski practically in the woods. I stay as far right as possible at allll times. I rode 2-up with my girlfriend last Saturday, and came up from the south into Woodford. We rode out alittle, and turned around about 11:00 or so. Just in time for everyone and their brothers to be out racing in the trails (7N/7S) I can remember a few times getting that feeling of being hit. Scared the s**t out of the gf. It was her first time in Woodford. She told me when we got back to the truck that she never wanted to ride in Woodford again. Kinda sad when a girl whos been riding for only about a year says that.
I want to buy her a sled in the worst way, but fear that she doesnt have the experience/riding skills it takes to avoid these guys.
Dont get me wrong, I enjoy a good throttle squeeze, but some of these guys are pouring into corners wide open, at 80+++mph. :banghead:
Also, just a note. USE THE ENTIRE F**KIN TRAIL, NOT JUST THE CENTER!!!!

Well said JJDREVCT! I'm one of the other guys with a ski in the woods and my face in a branch full of snow to avoid the IDIOTS! I want to go home to the wife and kid in the same condition that I left in.It seems that this year has taken a huge jump in danger on the trail. With the lack of snow wouldn't you want to slow down and enjoy the trails you found and not rush through the day?My other half is also paranoid about being hit and that just plain sucks!

this topic sent me away from this sport and it is threatening to do it again. It is such a shame that some just don't get it. This is people's lives they are messing with. If they think they are so F"n fast race snocross and prove you are fast and smart........ . I think i might start carrying a stick to swat em off my side of the trail, now wouln't that be a surprise. I have read where in other states they mark a trail and watch it if you are out of your lane you get a ticket...... GREAT IDEA !!
