Any leads will be followed up by me!

Anyone that goes to Quebec lock your stuff and keep it in sight at all times!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!! This includes gas stops and food stops. And if you have a nice truck and trailer, lock that too with a steering wheel lock or wheel lock!!! The Quebec Provincial officer told me he loses 3-4 sleds per weekend just in his territory!!! And he basically told me they will do nothing to follow up on the crime. Obviously there are a lot of criminals in Quebec who steal sleds!!!

Thanks for the sentiment. I hate to say it but I did a LOT of work to that machine and I really liked it. And it was set up very well (based upon a lot of HCS advice.) You kind of lose faith in people when something like this happens - it ruined a riding vacation for four riders! All I can say is don't take anything for granted if you're up there. I figured since I was riding a 'Cat and nobody rides 'Cats in Quebec, nobody would want it. (It's mostly Ski Doo and some Polaris up there.) Obviously, I was wrong. The cop said it is not teenagers doing this - he says its older people who are doing this for income. It would be so easy for them to have a 'sting' operation to catch them; yet they do nothing.

Speaking of sting operations...

Since sled and vehicle theft up there is such common knowledge, I wonder why we haven't heard of people "planting" nice sleds in easy to steal locations and then watching them, say from a car or hotel window. I realize that sitting there, watching is not the best use of time and everyone would rather be riding but I'd think, by now, there would be more stories of people setting traps and catching these guys in the act. I have NEVER heard of anyone catching them in the act and I've heard 100's of theft stories from the St Donat, St. Zenon area alone.

Just thinking out loud.

I'll make sure my buddy sees this. He's heading up to that area this week.

That's exactly what we were talking about after it happened!!! We thought our sleds would only be at risk overnight at the hotel. But, they are much bolder than that. It would be easy to have a sting operation. You could even put a Lo-jack in a sled and follow it. But I got the impression that the Quebec Provincial police will put forth minimal effort to combat this. Apparently, it is not affecting their tourist trade...or else they would do something about it.

Tell your buddy to not take any chances WHATSOEVER!

The hells Angels are huge in Queer-bec and have their fingers in everything. It sucks to lose your stuff but it would be far worse to have a run in with the H.A. or any of their sub-group wanna b's.
Just my two cents

Well, that's an interesting perspective - I have thought about what I would do to the people who stole the sled if I caught them, but maybe I don't realize who I'm dealing with. Or the extent of 'organized' crime in everyone's favorite province.

Do you have any recommendations for similar riding in Ontario? I live in Rochester, NY - about three hours from Toronto. We were driving six hours to Quebec. It's too bad the awesome trails in Quebec have now become off limits for my friends and me.

I don't have the answers other than being really anal about locking up your stuff and keeping an eye out. Its just too bad people find easier to steal someone elses toys rather than work for their own. No pride anymore.
sad but true

Take the 400 north to 69 hwy, when you get to Sudbury the trails get good. Between Sudbury and the Soo there is low traffic volume on the trails, post in the Ontario Forum, or check www.ofsc.on.ca, Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs website
