My son Jim and I started at the Whitcomb Summit on Rt 2 and headed north. Nice trails going that way thanks to the Florida Mountaineers. We headed up towards Readsboro and had some trouble finding the trail head in Hartswellville that leads into Woodford but we finally found it and took the trail towards Harriman Res. and Jacksonville. The trail was beautiful all the way to Harriman and a nightmare after that all the way to Jacksonville. It appears that the trail got whooped up before the last snowfall and froze solid that way. The groomers had been out but the snow is so light and fluffy it just can't hold in place. We took 8 south from Jacksonville and it was really nice all the way to Petes in Heath. We had a nice lunch there and headed back on 91S on the powerlines. The Indianhead Snowmobile Club grooming squad was out in full force and the trails were perfect in the entire area. Once we got out of the Indianhead trail system things rapidly deteriated and 91S wasn't groomed at all the rest of the way until we crossed Rt 2. The trail down to the river bridge was pretty hairy and up Florida Mountain had a few washouts and bad spots but we were glad it was broken at least. Sure was good to get back to the rig without incident. Not much traffic all day. My SXR broke 16,000 miles and my boy did a fine job handling his sled thru some pretty rough terrain. Sorry forgot camera so no photos this time. Going skiing tommorow with both boys. Life is good: DT

Hey DT - I went on a pretty good ride myself on Friday. Conway, MA, to Whately, to the Burgy Bullets in Williamsburg, pretty good conditions. Got gas in Leeds, then back thru Burgy, up a powerline trail (real nice) all the way to the Chesterfield Gorge. The local groomer was out there, doing an awsome job - it was lie riding in NEK! From there it was off to the Knightville Dam, Then back out to Goshen and the DAR. We were now getting a little tired, so after food and gas, we headed out to the Ashfield Lake House, and finally back to Conway. The trail from Ashfield to Conway was brutal, and the two really steep hills were already pretty well blown out. 116 miles later, I was back home, taking a couple Alleve. All in all, a great ride out my back yard. 400+ miles this year, all in Mass! (haven't been to VT yet this year).

Get out and enjoy the Snow while we have it! J.P.

It would be possible from the Whitcomb Summit but I wouldn't recomend it. The desiginated trail, 91N, is ungroomed and barely passable in spots, for about 10 miles. It is a nice ride from the school in Whitingham VT though. I am not that familiar with most of the trails in Mass as I've spent most of my riding time and miles in Vermont. I like riding in Mass though. DT

Cool. I've ridden some of those trails too. I hope to get out to that area again sometime this season. How was the DAR. I feel the need for Alleve myself!!! DT

The trail was great by your house. Looks like they used a big groomer on it :div20: DT
