I have a 1999 ZL 500EFI. We just put a new stator in it. (Rebuilt) It is pulling 9 Grand on the tach wide open. The primary sheaths were replaced due to a recall when it was new. Everything is stock other than I put in a 53 degree helix and took out the stock 51. I also turned the secondary spring back to the furthest counterclockwise hole. (Decreasing RPM's). Any recommendations? A dealer said I should check the primary for wear? At has 2000 miles on it!

Thank you.

its just like what mine does. the clutch engages and about 5,000rpms and i though that when i am at about 70-80mph it was reving high but i though that was how it was set up

how long since you replaced the belt? it may be getting hard causing slipping. it sucks but some belts can last for 3000 miles and others for 700 miles or even less. i had one that lasted 50 miles then turned to confedie, put the old one back on and rode for another 150 miles.

I don't think the belt has very many miles on it? I could replace it. Do old belts cause over revving? Especially around 1000 over?

ya. had one on my wildcat that let it rev too high. it had about 1500 on it. replaced it and problem solved. its always peace of mind for me to put a new belt on at the start of the riding season anyway. i always keep the old belts for spares. i put some tape on the outside of it with the date it came off and how many miles are on it so when i go for another belt in an emergency i grab the best one. they can get hard over time. that can let it slip and change things. also they can get crushed. have you ever had the update done on the clutch? they were recalled in the 99 models for flying into pieces. you may get a new clutch for free. there should be numbers on the clutch your dealer can check.

Thanks. I will check the belt next time I'm out. Everything is melting fast around here though. I don't know when I will be able to test it.
