I'm headed east on RT 15 Friday. Can anyone tell me about any parking or the conditions in the Wolcott/Hardwick/Walden area? Would I be better off headed toward Groton from Walden or north?

Thanks for any help...

Conditions remain sketchy around here. Still not enough snow. A few are riding but I would head towards Island Pond for less wear and tear on your sled. If you do ride around here watch out for obstacles as the groomers have not been out yet in Walden. :div20:

Can you tell me where I might find parking in that area for future reference? How do I get to Coles Pond from Rt 15?

Thx

Whenever I have ridden out of Hardwick, I've parked next to the Ford Dealer right on RT 15. Vast Access is right there, but I haven't gone from there this year & I'm not sure about the snow cover. Also I have parked at the Charlamont Restaurant in Morrisville or Uncle Bill's in Eden. There probably are some others.

Trail report as of Fri, 21 Jan 2005 21:46:52 -0500
Conditions in Caledonia County have not really changed that much this week. If we are lucky we may have received several inches of snow during the week. NO grooming in the immediate St. Johnsbury Area All trails in Danville-W.Danville area with exception of the Railbed have been groomed tonight and are in very good shape. All kinds of room to park at Martys in Danville. Do not use the railbed as the rails are not nearly covered. Most all trails in Groton and Groton State Forest were also groomed today.Riding is O.K. into the Uppper Valley Grille. All trails throughout the County are open but with very minimal snow conditions especially in the lower elevations. Trails in the Wheelock-Sheffield and Burke have been groomed and are in fair condition. Many trails in the Walden-Coles Pond Area have now been groomed. No grooming into Lyndonville. All we can do now is hope for some snow, but there is very little in the forecast for next week. All of the storms are going South of us. Beware of many active logging areas throughout the County.

Interesting :cn: ....................That's news to me! I live right on the trail in Walden and no grooming around here, just sleds chattering through the farm fields on the minimal snow and gunk that's there. I live between Coles Pond and East Hardwick and check the trails everyday when I leave the house. Maybe they have groomed up on the hill and over by Old Duke Rd. I'll check with Doug..........he's the groomer and get back to ya.

Try Marty's in Danville for the best parking around here.

Most trails in the area have been groomed and are good riding. There are some bad spots however. We rode down to Groton today and the trails are excellent down there, and also coming back over Cow Hill. Stay away from West Barnet area, trails are terrible over there.

I agree. Today I drove by the other side of Walden and the trails look good. The RR bed next to Joe's pond looks fantastic and the rails are gone in that area heading towards Walden. If that's any indication of how the RR bed is going to be after they finish the full 96 miles then AWESOME is all I can say!

From the Walden General Store towards Old Duke is also nicely groomed. From Dows Crossing and the top of Old Duke into Hardwick and Greensboro Bend does not look good and has not been groomed but people are on it.

Hardwick to Morrisville, still no good.

I could see exposed rails Saturday as we were driving on the road. I wouldn't try it and risk hitting a spike with the skis.
