Well, we did it again! Hadn't really planned on going this weekend but with the massive snow storm, we thought we would take advantage of it. This made it 3 years in a row that the son in law and I pulled it off. Left 9:00 am. on Saturday in a virtual white out. Ran the same basic routes that we used in the previous years and which I also have saved as a permanent track in my GPS. Picked up the Pymatuning Trail Blazers trails on the east side of Pymatuning heading north to Linesville, Pa. Shaved some time off by doing some road riding where ever possible. After Linesville, its all back roads heading north ( Airport Rd. ) untill you hit East Springfield, Pa. There we picked up the Triangle Snowmobile Clubs trail system. Basically its one trail from there to New York. Trail #4, the main corridor trail runs from the Ohio/Pa. line clear to Vermont I think! We did run into a few problems where a part of the trail was closed / re-routed since last year. A couple of times we spotted signs stating that, other times we found out the hard way (dead ends). All part of the adventure! Most of Triangle's trails are signed very well although the trails are narrow with a lot of twistties. Again we elected to do more road riding even though we knew where the trail was. The whole time, the snow was really coming down! Once we got to Erie, Pa., the Presque Isle Snowmobile Clubs trails were getting sweet with about 10 inches of fresh powder. Traffic on the trails was getting heavy as well, since it was a Saturday and the first real snow storm in quite a while. Just east of Erie and on the trail we stopped for lunch at the Mound Grove Golf Course's bar/grill. What a cool place! Massive old barn transformed into a eatery. There had to be better then a hundred sleds parked there. After lunch it was eastward again in the blowing snow on to French Creek and into New York state. Normally we would take #4 all the way into Mayville but we elected to take a slightly longer route by going by the way of Clymer, NY. Checked into Webbs Motel about 4:30. The place was booked solid with snowmobilers! Its a good thing I called ahead! Did a bit more riding after we checked in, had a good dinner and dug in for the night. And boy did it keep snowing! Woke up Sunday morning and the sleds were BURIED!!! After what seemed like forever cleaning and warming them up, we finally hit the trail for home about 8:30 am. I think we would have been further off sleeping in as we ended up breaking trail most of the morning. The powder in the fields had to be 2 foot or better. A bit more then I care for! Ended up dropping back and letting the son in law do the bull work. Gotta love them young bucks! Once we got closer to French Creek a few sleds had been thru and that helped a lot. Ended up running even more roads coming home just because we could. I didn't take the camera on this trip, but I wished I had. Some of the snow drifts were as big as I had seen in years. All in all a good trip, doing about 300 miles round trip. After riding up in the U.P. for a week the week before last, these were a lot "tougher" miles. But for a "local" ride this is one of my favorites. Can't wait till next year when we do it again! ylsuper.gif
