My uncle has a 98' formula III 600, why when every time he pulls it off the trailer the pto cylinder stays cold? the sled has been doing this for the past 2 years. Is this a (hopefully) common problem with this sled? dunno.gif At first we thought bad gas or moisture in carb. reason being, a warm garage or hair dryer to the carb will get the sled to fire right, but only lasts so long before the same problem occurs. The sled has been to the dealer and they cannot duplicate the problem. He just recently bought a new 800 rev, but wants to keep the sled for his daughter. The damn thing looks like it just came out of the dealer( thats how we keep all of our sleds :div20:) So any input would be appreciated

have the carbs been cleaned latly? have you tried to run drygas init? sound like the carb is icing up only takes a vary small droplet of water to freeze a main jet. clean the carbs drain the fuel system completly tank, lines, pump, carbs and so on.put brandnew gas in it with drygas and hopefuly it solve your problem.

When the plug is pulled it is gas fouled. could this be a "too much fuel" issue? or maybe a worn out reed pedal? The only other thing i can think of is maybe a bad wire end. The coil was replaced last year but if the new 1 was bad why the same cylinder? dunno.gif The sled runs great for a few miles with a new plug then it's back to two cylinders

sounds like she's gassin up. check all settings on your carbs...and reeds....

I am no doo expert but dosen't that motor have rotary valves? Is there any way it could be not functioning or functioning irraticly, Chances are if carbs have been cleaned they wouldn't plug up that fast. As far as icing goes, both would go at the same time most times. Just a thought

Ya know, in the drunken haze I've been in the past few days, it never occured to me that the rotary vave may not be turning/opening correctly. I will feel like an ass if that is the problem :frech32: Thanks for the wake up redsled. the sled is at the dealer now. I will tell them to check it out. Thanks :beerchug:

I took my carbs off of my 1997 FIII 600 to clean them this year and found that my Mag side choke had been sticking. I had noticed last year that the choke lever was hard to operate but waited for the fall cleaning to check it.
What I found was a white type of powder that was coming off of the cable and dropping down into where the choke cylinder moves up and down,,, creating friction and causing the sticking. I cleaned it up and the lever works easily and smoothly now. Will wait for the summer to check it out to see if it returns.
I was noticing a lack of power in the mid range, my plugs looked good all winter but I run BR9EYA plugs so I'm not sure if they were helping with avoiding a "foul" situation.

So who out there has had experiance with this,, once the cables start to produce white powder (I assume this is corrosion) is it repairable with oil or should I replace the cables?

well tonight my uncle has just remembered that out of the box the dealer raised the jetting on the pto carb. (thought that yami was the only 1 to do so???)SO.....now i will clock in and take the carbs off, re-jet to factory specs, and suggest to him to also buy a stador for it. dont know what jetting they changed but sounds to me like a place to start.

correct me if I'm wrong:

bad stador = weaker spark. which = gas fouling the already fat cylnd.?????????? ? also just to add... sled never pops or backfires.
