i have been working with and on this problem for far to long now and now there is snow and not being able to ride is KILLING me... i have a 94' v-max 600 dx... and it has been fouling out on one plug for a long time....it started out sometimes when i would be riding it would foul out but work again... now its to the point were it will only run on one cylinder most of the time... i have replaced the plugs many a times and it seems to do good only for a while.. so far this winter it would run on both cylinders untill i tried to give it more gas then it would foul out....so i bought some new plugs and put them in and now its runnin on both cylinders but wont idle... tried adjustin the idle but dont help... i am starting to get very aggervated with it and not being able to ride... all my sleds are up for sale in order to be able to buy a new sled but in the mean time i would really like to be able to snowmobile, any help or thoughts on this would be GREATLY appreciated thank and have a Merry Christmas xmas-smiley3.gif

My guess would be to get your carbs rebuilt, this new formulated gas is for shit, it gums up your carbs bad, Jacques

i had this problem with my doo, have you checked your pistons, rings? just look through the exaust, then if it looks clean no blowby theyu should be fine or use a comp tester. then if they are good, check your fuel lines and check the carbs, id check the pistons first though.
ChevyFreak88
ok thanks... me and a friend are looking to rejet the carbs and clean them up so hopefully that is the only problem

Carbs are dirty. Complete cleaning and rebuild is in order.

Check you spark plug caps Mine went bad on my old 96 VmaX 600 I went through a box of plugs before we figured this out just get new caps there like $3 each

What color are the fouled plugs?? Wouldn't dirty carbs have the exact opposite effect on the plugs (ie: plugged jets=no gas=lean=white plugs)??
I'd put my newbie sledder guess on wires/caps as has been mentioned by the guy who has owned a V-max sled with the same problem. Or the CDI.
ChevyFreak88
so you think its the plug wires or the whole CDI? its a good possiblitly i had my CDI go out on my Safari... the plug that gets fouled out is just soaked with gas and oil...making it black

I think its just tha caps beacause it sounds like the same thing that happen to me if you have another sled that runs fine just steel the caps off of that and try them and see if it makes a difference.
ChevyFreak88
well good news boys i bought new caps and rejeted it today and she runs like a beaut... dont kno wich one did it for me but i dont really kare all that matters to me is that it is running and even idles...the jets were 156.3 and now i have 152.5... i think they might be too lean but he had nothing else so i might go get 155 from him..i just dont want to mess up a piston
ChevyFreak88
well imagin this the POS isnt running right again.... i belive it is the rings... im gunna rebuild it and hopefully it will run right then... if not im driving the POS off a cliff and not looking back

Make sure & check your "reeds" before you tear it all apart! You will be real pizzed off if you tear it all down & then find out it was something else 1st! :banghead: :frech32:
