FYI,
We have prepared some trails in the Mars Sand Hills that will be used for dogsled races on Tuesday, Dec. 28th. This includes areas south of Mile 84 (or two miles south of PR 317).
Please avoid this area on Tuesday!
We do not want to risk having a wreck, dogs don't stop for sleds!
People will be on guard at all major intersections just incase.
Races will be starting at the Brokenhead Trail Blazers clubhouse for anyone who is interested. Food will be available.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks to those who steered clear of the dogsledders on Tuesday. All went well, the dogsledders had an excellent day with no problems on the trail. Those sledders who did drive through, thanks to you for waiting for the dogs to pass before proceeding.

Sledders stayed away because they were all lost doing circles in the bush! How about marking the trails in the area before the season ends.

Please let me know where you were exactly and what the problem was. I was out on 317 today posting some signs at the junction there. We had three signs run over and gone missing over the past few days.
I can't help you out if you're just making a general complaint. We have tons of signs out there this year, and yes we have made some changes to the trail this year with more sections of one way trail.
This season is just getting started, and we're way ahead of last year. I could have been out doing more signing over Christmas, but the few of us decided to stay home with our families.
Maybe you can meet me out there and show me where the problems are. When we mark these trails year after year, we get a bit complacent, because it's hard to mark the trail for everyone.
Let me know.
Dave

Hey goataxe, Pleasure to type to you!
We had planned to move the trail junction to 2 miles east of Tyndall, then shoot back NW across the section to join up with the trail. One of the landowners on that section didn't want sleds on his field. oh well, you have to respect him for his reasons.
The trail that we have been using for the past few years has a few issues with drifting (the mile and a half of running east-west) and also a large drainage ditch. And we knew that the property by the school had been sold, so we thought of looking for another route. We should have had a backup plan at least a month ago and should have talked to you then!
Thanks for letting us run our trail along your property. It makes our lives much easier. Please let us know if you have any concerns or problems. We'll be happy to help. Maybe we can meet for a coffee at Julikins one day?
Thanks
Dave

As of today, the landowner agreement was supposed to be signed. I didn't talk to the member in charge of that since this morning. I'll be out placing the large sign by Tyndall school tomorrow. We'll also try to get the rest of the signs up (2 miles worth) over the next few days.
It's hard work synchronizing our volunteers to get all of the signs up at the same time. Please bear with us.
If you're ever willing to help out, PM me and i'll give you my number.
Thanks

Sorry, I didn't answer your question. Yes, we'll be running the same trail as last year.

Is it just me, or does it seem unreasonable that some people do nothing but complain? If you are not familiar with a trail area, why would you ride there this early in the season if you can't find your way anywhere without a sign at EVERY TURN. Ever hear of a MAP & COMPASS? People are busting it out there and you can't follow a trail that has been groomed within days? Dave I think you are waaay too accomodating to people who think they are driving the US interstate highway system. This is a sport where taking some small amount of personal responsibility goes a long way toward having a safe and enjoyable ride.On the lighter side, nothing more amusing than a sledhead going 100 MPH in circles. That's my first rant ever and do I ever feel good.

Hey Dave,

Kudos to you for being a good sport about some of the bashing that you get here. I really respect how you usually politely answer that you'll try to fix the problem and that if the person has time that you'd be glad to accept their help. I know that it can get a bit tough to always take the high road, but that is the life of a volunteer. Sure you could snap back at every complaint, but good volunteers know that if they go negative then their work becomes a chore and they can't take away the personal satisfaction that comes from doing your part (and then some) for the benefit of everyone.

I ride your trails a little bit during the winter and you guys do a great job. Sure, sometimes I get turned around out there and end up on a trail that I wasn't intending to take, but some of my best rides have come from missed turns that led to trails that I've never been on before. That's all part of what trail riding is about. I carry my map and compass and when I get a little bit lost it's never hard to find my way back to a spot that I either know or is signed.

Keep up the great work out there!

Believe me, there are days when we really feel like packing it in. And if that ever happens, there really isn't anyone there to pick up the slack. Snoman does not have the means to pick up a section of trail if it becomes abandoned. They would have to beg another local club to pick up the slack, which wouldn't be an easy task. I guess we do all of this because we enjoy doing it. Kinda hard to explain.
Thanks for the positive feedback.

Xc special,

my post was more of a general note, if it was in response to anything it was this one from jughead. I'm fine with someone pointing out a flaw in an honest attempt to improve a problem, but the "before the season ends" sarcastic rant above is no way to thank our volunteers who do all the hard work on our trail systems.
jughead
Hey thebat, why don't you head out to the trail mentioned and follow the posted markers and we'll see were you end up. And as far as "by the end of season comment", I paid for my snow pass and all I want is a good value for my $100.00, there is only 8-10 ten good weekends of riding, so when the trails are not in a ridable condition I get pissed.

Hey Dave, sorry I didn't know about the land issues, your efforts are appreciated, thanks, Gary.
