i cleaned the valves when i bought the sled in october to a spit shine. i have ridden my sled for only 150 miles and i thought it was acting weird so i had some time to examine it tonight. my exhaust valves where so bad i had a hell of a time getting them out. i cleaned them up and put them back in. what is causing it to do this ?.........my main gets are 460's and i use AMSOIL INTERCEPTOR OIL. i filled up the oil filler monday and i have ridden maybee 45 miles since then and i have noticed tonight that the oil is down an inch in the filler. what is going on here ? is my oil pump on the wrong setting ? am i running to rich or something ? 150 miles should not do that to my valves with the interceptor oil. any info would be greatly appreciated....Art trau14.gif

Sled should be still under warrantee, bring it to the dealer to check it out. I clean mine every 500 miles and they are not to bad and they remove easly. Been using spectro syn, Just switched to klotz hopping to increase time between cleanings

any idea tho what could be wrong ?

You are probably running rich with the gutted airbox. Jet the mains down to 430 from the stock 460, and turn the air screws (small brass screw located by the carb opening) out 1/2 turn from where they are now. It does not sound like the oil pump is set too high, but you can check it. The line on the oil pump arm and the pump body should line up when the slack is taken out of the throttle, but before the carb slides start to move.

Was the sled brand new when you got it? If so, the dealer probably oil in the gas for break-in , and with the extra oil , the valves wil gum up pretty fast.

Try a different oil.
I have never used Amsoil myself, but I do know that Shell Synthetic Ultra does not gum my valves at all.
Almost 2000 miles last year and I never cleaned them once.

I think pockets is right on the money! the jetting is really rich, the combustion temps never get hot enough to burn the oil , it just turning it into tar! Lean it out on the main and slightly on the idle mixture this should help alot! You should be useinf about 12~14 oz of oil per 12~15 gallons of gas. The oil pump setting vary with how fast you rideing, slow trails will use less then high speed running. My xc will use about 20 oz in 175~200 miles. Check back with us after your first leaned out ride! I bet your have a smile and cleaner valves!
Its not your oil Ves II would be worse!

I'm was a Klotz fan and still am but not for the 02-800 (800 seems the worst for gumming valves compared to the others)I was averaging about 400 to 500 miles each cleaning, they had hard carbon build up each timeand difficult to pull out (cold engine). I used Blue Marble and a check at 250 miles (summer layup) they were very clean. Not to say I will use it this year, I just dont feel confortable useing this oil.. I will go to Yama semi-synthetic, hear some good reports, its also much cheaper and exceeds the specs of many of the other oils. Sure hope it pans out.

One other think, if your think your using more oil than you should. Check that the oil pump arm is closing all the way. I've seen a few where the cable is bent above the arm and not allowing it to close completely aat idle. This is caused by the turkeys preping the sled, they twist the arm open to prime and clean the air from the lines, doing so they put a slight bend/twist on the cable.

440's are in guys . thanks for all of your help(really appreciate it)......i'll let you know how the sled runs with them in.....seemed smoother on the ice glaced field beind my house lol

They did this to my 98 700. The cable ended up breaking.

the VES II is junk. I run yamalube 2-S and clean my valves every 800 miles. Runs great. I would recommend that for only $13 a gallon
