If you visit Vermont especially with the wife or GF and want to win some MAJOR points with her or you just like phenomenal food, stop in Quechee. (off I-89 Exit 1 near White River Jct and West Lebanon, NH)
It's in a renovated mill on Main St. and has a glass blowing studio (Did you realize that glass is classified a liquid, even in it's solid state?) and they sell woolen products, kitchen ware and glass products.
This place is easily on par with some of the absolute best restaurants in New York City. Plan to spend BIG DUCKETS ($75 for lunch for 2.........@$100+ for dinner for 2) at SP but the food is some of the best I've eaten anywhere and the atmosphere is soothing beyond anything I've seen anywhere in the U.S. It's a dining experience that is totally worth the side trip.
GF and I drive 2hr down from Walden and 2h back just for lunch.............it's that good!
Look them up on the net at: http://www.simonpearce.com/
Reservations recommended for dinner, lunch is first come first serve............ask for a seat with a waterfall view. :div20:
One more thing if you're there on a weekday for lunch stop upstairs and see Michael. He's a guy from Ireland working the loom making carpets...........he's a snowmobiler, rides with his dog!
