Well i finally decided to get a 98/99' ZR 600 rather then a 96-97' ZRT 600. I do a lot more trail riding and i think i want a lighter sled as far as weight goes. I dont exactly feel like burrying a triple, i'd much rather burry the twin. Just wondering if anyone has any information on the ZR 600's that i should know about. Is there anything to look out for ? Are they a pretty reliable machine ? Maybe i should stick with the ZRT rather then go for a ZR ??? who knows....thanks guys !

Hey wizard, I ran a 99 ZR600 last year and just bought a couple of goodies for it this year. Sled performed flawlessly except one time last season when all of the sudden it started to run rich-then lean, then rich and so on. After taking apart the carbs about 10 times, and never finding a single glitch, I checked the impulse line, and sure enough, it was dry cracked. No big deal, but had me stumped for a bit!

Other than that, I had a excellent time with it. Congrats on a nice machine choice. buttrock.gif

I've been on a 99 zr6 for 3 years and it is the best sled I've had. This one is clutched, piped, and geared. It handles rides and runs great, with never a problem. The D&D single pipe really wakes this motor up. I wrench on all my buddies zr's and now firecats and the zr is still my favorite.

Go for a '99 ZR600, not a '98- there were several problems and recalls with '98. Cat warrantied it all, but the '99's were good from the start. Either year 500 is good too and almost as fast- I've got a '99 ZR500 LE and it's been a great sled. I'm sure you'd like the ZR better than a ZRT.

I have a 99 as well, great sled, no real mods just jetted down 2 sizes and a tour buddy under the hood, these sleds really like the fuel :drunk: , I also put reverse on it. Awsome sled, highly reccomended

hey toddszr600, you gotta tell me about this reverse action on your sled. I would love to have that. Not for trails and such, but for trailers. Never heard about reverse. Factory or aftermarket? Thanks in advance! :augen41:

definitely get a 99 over a 98

You could get reverse as a option on the ZR, I got mine off ebay and installed it myself, just replace the guts and outer chaincase.
Its great for a ageing back, or just turning around on the trail. Heres a blow up from Browns.
