is there any formula for how to set up your clutch?or is it trial and error?i just got a 2002 pro-x 600 that is stock and would like to set up the clutch before the snow flies.besides trial and error how do you know which wieghts,spring etc to run?i am about 230lbs with gear and ride agressive trail.i want the sled to pull like a freight train but i want to maintain top end.any help would be appreciated.

I would say that most of us just pay the money and test every thing ......
I think guys like pockets and other have enough backround to know what to use based on past setups! You have to understand how a clutch set up works and what changes effects what areas....ex. if the finish angle is to steep on the helix you have will it load the motor down or free it up and over rev? >load it down but primary weights can add complexity to this also because they can do the same thing.

heres a good setup for an 02: almond/blue primary spring, 10-62g weights, stock r-11 helix and stock silver spring on hole 2(maybee hole 3 for you're weight). a harder acellerating setup is to use a 45-36 progressive helix and a silver/blue sec spring, but it may be too much for youre weight. theese pro-x's dont get much top end without a bunch of chassis tweaks.

if i go to the almond blue primary with 10-62's how much gain could be expected?will i be able to put a couple sled lengths on my buddies 2003xc800sp(stock)?what kind of chassis mod's are needed?i only want to gain all around not sacrifice anywhere(i know,tall order but i gotta ask)

you'll gain a bunch, but you wont be able to pull away from the 800, unless he is spining(which is very possible).

the sled does have 144 studs down the middle so should i still go with almond blue and 10-62's in the primary?anything for the secondary?
just want to be sure before i order parts.

if you gear down a little set the sisor stops for max weight transfer ,so it plants the track and hooks you may run with him up to 60...... get a good look because thats the last time you will see him other then his back. the 600 just doesnt have the TQ to keep up , gearing down your adding tq that can be apply to the track. once the clutches start up shifting the 800 will start to gain or pull away. most races on snow are traction and then power! My buddy has a 01 mxz 700 we would race on this pond every weekend... I would make some changes and he would put gas in it thats it.... first 10 races it was who hooked the best out of the hole, I fixed that with a 1.25 track! then it was more noticable making slight changes to clutching.

A 600 will easily pull an R12 poo helix. They can be found used for $25. They were stock in 700 and 800 XCs. A Hot Seat Performance 36S helix also works well for aggressive trail with an EPI orange secondary spring, 10-60 or 62s depending on snow setup and rider weight, almond/blue spring.
