I live in Minot,ND ride in Bottineau quite a bit in the winter but planning on making more and more trips out to the moutains in the future.. right now i own a 03 F7 sno pro that i was considerin on puttin a 151 conversion with a 1.5'' track.. but i have a chance to buy a 04 king cat. so i was wonderin if it would be a suitable sled to ride around in the ditches and fields when im back at home not in the mountains...thanks

Are you trading in the F7 for the KK? If not, definitely use the F7 here in ND. I wouldn't recommend the KK for ND riding on trails/lakes. The KK just isn't built for the snow conditions here. Besides, the lugs on that track will tear up the nice trails that many people work hard to maintain. Just my opinion.

Hello,
I had a 03 firecat that I put a 151"X1.5" track on, slp can, v-force 3 reeds, ect. This sled ran great up here - I sold it for a mtn cat 900 w/159 - If it were my $ I would trick out that firecat - the king cat is a great runner and will highmark with the best of them but overall they are in my opinion a bit large for most situations and if you have the 151 it is plenty of track to have a great time.
Also the king cat is not made as much for getting off the ground as is the firecat - The firecat did have better durability for landings than the 900. Not sure if this is what you are looking for but as a 17 year old with a slednecks banner I assume that you like to get off the ground as much as possible.
Just my 2cents -

Overkill. I cry every time I see someone cut down an attack 20 track. Longtrack the firecat.

Was juss at the Arctic Cat dealer in town and he said instead of puttin money into the firecat why dont you juss trade the firecat in fora M5 since thats more like a crossover slled since its got the 141x1.6 track so i think i made up my mind. and im goin to get a M5

Just my 2 cents but i would get the M6 and put the 1.6 lug track on it just because u are used to the power of the F7 i just baught a M5 and i love it but i do not do that much power riding

For north dakota I would stay with the F7. I believe the M5 is an entry level mtn sled. Arctic Cat only rates that sled at 80 hp. The motor is a stripped down version of the f5 motor. Take it up to 7000+ ft in the mtns you will have a hard time do to the lack of power. You will be real lucky to probably get 35 to 40 hp at the track at higher elevations. Alot of people believe it is the same motor as the F5 but its not. I believe it is missing the power valves. As you will notice they did away with the 570 fan mtn sled for 05 and the m5 took its place. Not only will you get dusted off on the trails in ND but when you head to the mtns you will have a hard time following people with a shorter track that are up on HP. If you are looking for a new sled I guess if I were in your shoes I would go with an M7 or at least an M6 with the 141. Than since it has the attack 20 on it and it is a good track for the mtns you have something to head west. Than I would also plan in the budget to purchase just the 1.6" 141 track that comes on the M5 for the trails there in ND. So now you would have a sled that will spank the other manfs. crossover sleds such as a Renegade or switch back both in the mtns and the trails. Just my 02 and my experience tells me.

My friend had a 03 f7 with a 151 2" track on it. He rode it in minnesota with not many problems. Also we went out west 2 times to the snoies last year and the sled did alright for a converted mountain sled. What I will tell you though is don't buy a king cat and expect to ride it on trails. For on thing the suspension isn't the greatest on the trails and if you want to talk about pushing in the corners try to ride one once. I love my king cat in the mountains for boondocking and hill climbing, but I would never ride it for a trail sled.

My firecat seems to trench a lot even with the deeper lug track. I've heard the longer firecat tracks (144) trench too. I guess the 13.5" wide track will not work as well as the traditional 15" wide. I have no seat time on a long track, just passing along what i've heard.
