Just picked up an 03 Pro X 700 w/ 1300 miles and I have a few questions... I removed the oil cap to reveal a full tank or Polaris Blue oil.. so naturally I removed the EVs and found them to be gummed up. I cleaned them up and now I'm just curious as to what I should do next... drain the tank and switch to VES II?? or another synthetic? (this is my 1st EV sled). I found NGK BR9ES plugs in the cylinders... i know they aren't right. Any recommendations... should I go with the Champion RN57YCC or NGK BPR9ES? Also I have read articles that bash this sled about being umcomfortable on smooth groomed trails? (That shouldn't matter since 90% of my riding is in Michigan!) Being that I'm young 5ft 9in 170lb and in pretty good shape, i'm not worried about being uncomfortable... the bars seem alright to me just sitting on it in the garage. Anybody have problems with getting cold hands w/ the stock windshield? I'm considering going with the next size taller. I also want to replace the stock muffler with something smaller and lighter. What is the best out there for this model? I've been looking at SLP and HSP. I appreciate any insight, Sucks sitting here.. Waiting for SNOW!! ~MATT :beerchug:

Matt - congrats on the new ride.

Many of the questions asked are opinion driven. So IMO:
I run amsoil interceptor with good luck
I run champions with good luck (I once hated them)
I do think the sled is not good in the real small studders,(like rail road track feeling), but rocks in the big stuff
I think youll be fine with that windshield (I am 5-9 as well), but if you ride -15 f you may go with the ugly one--I mean bigger
As far as mufflers _ I run stock, but SLP seems to get the most positive feed back and I have heard a lot of negative about HSP --- I suggest you ride it first.
One thing I would review - The motor mounts and Torque arm - these machines break motor mounts, and the T arm and heavier mounts tend to minimize the problems.

Dial in the clutches & suspension and enjoy.

I would save your 230.00 for the can and get a full slp system! it fits much better then the OEM pipe to slp can combo.... and its only 200 more !

I went down this road the fall, returned the can and got a system compleate with can for 430.00

Thanks for the input! I guess I really do want to put some miles on this sled before I dump any money into the exhaust system. What clutch set-up have you tried out? .. where do you see the improvements over stock? I know I really noticed a difference when i dialed in the clutches on my 99 and my 01. and any info on setting up the suspension? Thanks again - MATT

You will freeze your hands, I did. I used powermadd handguards that worked great at keeping the windchill off the hands.

The PROX skid/suspension is firm, not very compliant with stutters and small junk but is very good at big bumps and or charging hard.

Stick with the Champ plugs specd by Polaris. The ignition is designed around them, and I have put more than 20 000 on them on several Polaris twins with no probs. The NGK's may actually cause ignition probs.

I have used Amzoil in my VES motors with great results. The Polaris blue willl definitely gum up bad, the Polaris gold VES oil isn't much better.

I ran a Bender can on the stock exhaust that was snappier than stock, sounded nice but was not overly loud and was lighter and cooler looking. I also tried a MBRP Trail can that was loud and very light. I am running a full SLP single system this year.

I revalved all 4 shocks softer for this year and am hoping for plusher action and improved compliance while still retaining the big bump performance. I rab around last year on clicker # 1 and 2. This year hoping to use the full range of the clickers more with the softer valving and have the suspension stroke more fully.

If you're stock jet down to 420 mains, plenty safe even when cold @ sea level. The clutching is widely known and discussed @ length here on this site and elsewhere, no mystery.

VERY rock solid reliable sled, put over 3000 miles of severe use in very cold and sometimes low snow conditions last year with 0 defects other than the Team secondary clutch wearing out prematurely, Polaris warrantied it and gave me a new clutch this year.

Used Vforce reeds which behaved like all other Polaris twins...much snappier throttle response, harder pulling midrange and similar top end..liked it a lot.

PM me anytime if you have particular questions/probs...I spent a lot of time testing/tuning last year. 2003 PROX7

terez- what lug track do you have??
MattProX
What size studs has anybody ran w/ the stock 1" track? I'm thinking about running some 1.25" studs up the center. Then its torque arms, a little tweaking of the clutches and some Vforce 3s and i should be ready for snow. flag_usa.gif

1.25's are fine... don't do a little clutching, do A LOT!!!! also drop one tooth on the top sprocket... save your money on reeds and spend an extra 75 bucks on an RK Tek head instead... MUCH bigger gains...
x2 700
Hey Bonz50, where did you purchase your RK Tek head at and did you have to do any different jetting or anything else to the motor when you installed it? I'm currently running a Tempa-flow to take care of the jetting issue. Thanks. Also waiting for someone on this site to tell me if anyone or aftermarket co. makes a custom hose cover to replace the Cheapo Plastic one the sled comes with, any Ideas other than fabbing one up myself??
bonz50
with an RKT head, single pipe and vf2 reeds i run 450 mains down to zero degrees F... stock pilots and needles... moving to a 470 for cold days and installing atacc for the rest... fab one your self, only way i've seen so far... going to try to use some diamond plate AL for mine...

www.2strokeheads.com

couple of other places that retail them, i bought mine direct...
nickels
I did find out about the hose cover. From the guy I know who has one he got it out in wyoming. The place he got it from doesn't sell them. They basically fabbed them for themselfs. He asked them about it and they made one for him why he was out there. I'm possitive I seen a place online last year that was selling them for $50, but I'll be damn if I can find it now.
racerdave
I thought that wildchild guy made them?
nickels
Who's the wildchild Dave?
bonz50
a guy over at snowest that does a lot of custom machine work, rail extensions, racks, etc... good guy, good work, fair price

Thanks Nickels. Maybe I'll just have one made at work. We work with a couple of different metal fabricators that are very good.

Mixing Oils??? My sled still has about 1/2 a tank of Polaris blue left in the tank, next weekend at the Novi show I plan on buying a case of Amsoil or VES II... or maybe something else depending on prices. If I drain the tank of Polaris Blue and fill 'er up with the new oil be enough? Or should I drain all the lines and manually prime them with the new stuff? - MATT

I have and would leave what you have in the tank and fill it up with one of the too.... I think ams's is the better for keeping valves cland and smells better..... All Tw-3 oils can be mixed!
