Has the snowmobile community in Michigan been behaving better? Or are they still running around on peoples lawns with loud pipes at midnight? Here is the news from the Munising City Council meeting.

Wouldn't it be great if every community felt the same way about snowmobilers as the City of Munising and surrounding areas?

The first reading of proposals for improvements to provide better access to the City by snowmobilers, the City Commisioners voted affirmative, amid a round of applause, to extend the hours of the snowmobile curfew from 11pm to 2am, and to increase the maximum speed limit within the city limits from 10 mph to 25 mph.

There was also discussion to open more avenues and city streets to snowmobile travel to permit access to a greater number of businesses within the city.

The meeting was not without its desidents however, and a minority of residents opposed any changes to the already established access by snowmobilers. the majority, however, was in favor of the proposals.

A second reading of the proposals is scheduled for next week and with a positive response, the new regulations could be in effect before the start of the season. Kudos to the proponents of snowmobile use and the revenue it brings in. With considerations such as this, everyone wins!

We use to ride Munsing on a regular bases. But it got so hard to get in and out and around in town we started by passing Munsing. Many of the communities in the UP want the snowmobile $$$ but are not very snowmobile friendly. Munsing is a great hub and has some great trail riding in all directions. Glad to hear they are reconsidering there approach to snowmobiles. I think there are a lot of people like me that have dropped them as a distination spot to sled. Looks like they want some to these $$$ back.

:banghead: When I went to there years ago to ride they said stay away. From what I heard they did not like sledders. Who knows

Munising absolutely needs the tourist dollars of snowmobilers as snowmobiling is huge business for them. The problem is the sheer volume of sledders that go through and the fact that some act like total idiots with no respect for the rules.
