I'm going to be ordering a new sled soon but can't decide between the 121 or 136 track. I normally ride around the Fox Valley area and take trips up around the Lakewood Townsend area. Just curious what everybody else is riding and which one they preferred. I myself have never ridden a 136 but most of my friends (who have also never ridden one) keep telling me to go with this sled. Nobody i know has one so any info would be appreciated.

Well i'm gonna tell ya, to go with the 136" cause there is a night and day difference in ride. I will be alot smoother in the bumps on the trail, and goin off trail will be a blast jmo..........

i stick to the trails so a long track is not for me. looking at your previous year miles, it seems like you are a pretty casual rider. the longer track may be better in your case, as the difference in off trail and "playing around" capabilities are huge between the two.

136" all the way, I won't go back to a 121"

I am leaning towards the 2010 Dragon Switchback, now i just have to decide if i want the 600 or 800. Sure hope they get the 800 motor problem figured out.

If your stuck in the middle get the 136. Adds only about 6" to the contact area in total or about 2 lugs. Better traction/flotation. Polaris (and possibly others) used to tip the rails up by about 1/2 inch for the last section of the rear suspension so it would turn like a 121 at low speeds. Gives you the best of both worlds. Only thing to check is your trailer length. Studs could get more expensive on 136 models. More & longer studs needed. Happy buying!

I always rode 121" but in 2006, I bought a 136". Loved it so much that my new sled this year was a 144" Nytro XTX. Has the tipped up rail design and handles AWESOME in all conditions.

I do 90% trail, 10% off trail and I still would NEVER go back to a 121".

Yes, what Jay says here! He rode my Xfire this past weekend and I also won't go back to 121. And it fits in a 10' enclosed trailer ok. Great on trails and really fun when the snow gets deep!

Also rode with a friend with Dragon 700 SB that just got rebuild, he says go with the 600 from Polaris until they figure out the 800 and he is really not to sure about his 700. But, that sleds rides great also!

This is an awesome topic to bring up & I'm glad someone did! I too...am considering going from a 121 to a 136 in the future. One other thing that concerns me is how much "top end" speed does one normally lose with the 136?
I ride mostly trails with the very seldom off trail, but also like to door some lake racing with the guys sometimes too!

I also went from a 121" to a 136" big diff. rode better - better hole shot
the 136 did push a little in the corner but it was an 04 edge 700 that I streched
just added some more carbide. it also was a 1.5 paddle
I now went one step farther and have 2 - 144's a 07 Switchback with a 1.5 paddle and
an 08 RMK
most of my miles are trail riding in WI but do about 800-1400 miles
per year out west
I wont go back to a short track

When I had my 06 Yam Rage, my buddy has a 06 yam vector (With same engine). When both brand new, we were about even on the top end however, he has about 50 pounds on me. So I would imagine you may lose 2-3mph at the most going from a 121 to 136.

When we would race in loose snow, I would always beat him off the line and he would never be able to catch up. On hard packed trails, he would be able to beat me pretty good off the line. (He had studs vs no studs on my sled though)

Definitly worth trading a few mph on top end for a better ride in bumps, less track spin and more pull off the line.
