Hey guys , 3 of my riding buddies and myself are looking for a nice place to stay with the wives in Old Forge, for there once a year outing with us. We have been staying at the Timberview Lodge on the Hill for five straight years now and were looking to try something new. I've heard
That the trails are groomed better and more often in Old Forge and the resturants and night life is better, is this true?
Thanks,
Scott B

Hi Scott, Make sure Old Forge has the snow. It was bare towards the end of last year while tug hill still had 3 feet in most places. The night life is good, but you can find similiar on the hill. The best place I have ever stayed is the Edge Hotel in/near Lyons Falls. CLEAN and very nice people. The Best Western in OF is nothing special and pricy. OF gets crowded and muddy on the weekends. If you do go, you need a $35 trail permit for each sled. MARC

i went for an over night trip there 2 years ago, the night life was pretty good, there are a few decent restaraunts and bars to go to. We stayed at the Forge Inn which was nothing special and i think it was rather pricey also but i think any where in the Old Forge is going to be pricey considering that is their lively hood during the winter up there. We could see across the water from our hotel, if i can remember correctly i think it was the best western, it was definatly alot nicer than the one we stayed at but probably more expensive. I can't tell u much more than that besides getting on the net and seeing what is out there.

Bokrock,

The Water's Edge is a pretty decent place a little pricey with a restaruant and bar. The Best Western is ok, they do have an indoor pool and continental breakfast. The biggest problem with staying at the Best Western is crossing the bridge in town to get to the trails, big pain in the arse in low snow conditions. You could also try the Stillwater B&B they have some nice rooms and they always have snow, they are between Old Forge and Tug Hill, no trail pass required. The roads can be a little hairy if the weathers good (Snowing). If you are just looking for a clean room, no frills you can try Christy's Motel in town, right across from the gas station.

If you need a room in Old Forge make your reservations now, once the snow flies these places all bood fast! If you have any questions about Old Forge drop me a PM.

the northern lights which is a bed and breakfast in stillwater, NY not to far from old forge. Very nice people and place to stay, riding is great. But i'm not gonna lie to ya, for some reason it is so fu*&^% cold when i go there. Never got a above -21F the whole week i was there, and lowville which is not that far away was 10-15 degrees warmer. but it is nice riding. m2c.gif

we rent a house with a few buds in Inlet, just a few 100 feet from the boat launch where you access 4th lake. i can't even remember how to spell the landlords last name...striefvaters...something like that it says it on a sign, they have 3 nice A frame cabins too. a nice place to stay but bumpier than hell on weekends. your best best is to go look up there in that area for a place to rent. we don't even bother with the hotels pricey crowded...with the rented house you part your sleds, trucks, trailers and still got plenty of room for privacy etc... go and look the guy should be there, you can't miss the 3 nice A frames and a green and white house in the back where we stay... i'm glad to help and talk to other people that stay in the area i_need_snow.gif

My friends and our wives stay at The Forge Motel. Its within reason on price and has an indoor pool. Its right near Slickers, so the nightlife is right at your doorstep!!

We have stayed at Clarks Beach in Old Forge a few times and liked it. It is very close to the trails and has a indoor pool/ game room. Not real fancy, but we enjoy it. Here is a link to their site. http://www.clarksbeach.com/hi.html
