To those of you who ride in Quebec and use GPS's!

I have used my Lowrance handheld in Quebec for the past couple of years. I have noted that the base map is not quite up to the detail I saw on a handheld that some guys that I met in Baie Ste-Catherine were using last winter. I can't remember if it was a Garmin or a Magellan that the guy had, but it was better detail map data than mine.

What machines base-map (or downloadable map) is the best in your experience/observation??

Thanks for any feedback.

Follow-up to last post.

I'm seeking "Quebec specific" info. I have found that some US oriented mapping products are not as detailed for Canadian Provinces as they are for US. Anybody with a great GPS package for Quebec????

thanks

I will get back to you. My dad has a Garmin, so I'll ask him. :div20:

I used a Garmin GPSMAP 76 in quebec last year. It was great. Its basemap had most roads in most towns even small ones. I was with a friend last year and he had an accident. The GPS proved to be valuable in many ways. I was really surprised at how much detail there was. I got it "New in box" for $200.00 US on ebay. Retails for $300.00 US. Has Avg. mph, stopped time, moving time, trip miles, max speed. total miles. ITs a great unit. imo.gif

How was the terrain detail on the 76??? Things like lakes, forest roads, etc., out in the bush??

Check out Lowrance's web site. They now have Canadian Topo maps available (Called Freedom Maps.) They are compatible with the iFinder series. I'm looking into buying the new iFinder H2O but Lowrance doesn't have topo maps available for the states yet. The tech that I spoke with on the phone said that it shouldn't be long for the US topo series. Good Luck.
