Fast Rider
I was just curious to see if any of you NH riders would be interested in meeting up to go for a ride this winter. A good place to go is gassing up in Errol, head to the Diamond, by the Balsams, and over Dixville Peaks. about 150+ miles from my house here in Berlin (30 miles south of errol on Rt. 16)
We could meet at say the Millsfield parking lot...which is along route 16 directly across from the 7 Islands bridge. Can't be missed by you trailering folks!
So...anyone interested?
P.S. I have a camp on a pond so for those of you who love to race, we could spend a small bit of time having some fun!...about 1/4-3/8 of a mile of smooth running.
You up for it?
NHSLEDDING
Hey man,

I am all for that. It's great meeting new people too ride with. Keep a post open till winter. Pray for the white gold. Looks like you put in some Killer miles last year for what we had. Must be nice to be young!! LOL

Later
Fast Rider
Yeah...I go all over the place and get stuck everywheres. Lots of fun.
I am not sure how to keep a post open but I will make another one once the season comes closer....maybe every month or so.
shortfused
I'm in, as long as i am home from school... drags sound good too!!! Fast Rider- hopefully with my 136" i won't get stuck as much as you this year buttrock.gif ... i_need_snow.gif polaris_rules.gif
We could possibly make a swing across the river to go an eat at Bull Moose to... still plenty of time to plan it though.

Peace

I'll be there, give me a place and time :div20:
rob
should post this in NH forum for best results wink.gif
xc-mark
when the time gets closer post a time ant place... I should be able to make with with 2~4 of my friends! pray for more snow then last season! Flush.gif spring of 2004 sucked! the only big storm was early in dec 2003!
nhsledatvrider
I would be interested. The sooner you post a time the better chance I'll be able to go.
Fast Rider
I can post a time...but not really a date yet
say 9:00? 9:30?
mogulmasher
Once winter comes closer post a date and time and I'm there. I ride out of chickwolnepy parking lot in Milan or moose brook in Gorham (if the snow is good) every Saturday all winter long. We always head up through Millesfield, up over Dixville, thru Balsams, quick stop at warming hut in coleman st. park, then up to Pittsburg to run some loop and do some boondocking or pit playing, chill at Young's 'til nightfall then run the fresh groomed stuff all the way back. Usually try to do 150-225 each Saturday. 3 Saturdays in a row this past winter we met Umbagog's PB's grooming up to the top of Dixy peak in tandem and got to ride the fresh groom all the way back to Millesfield pond. yay2.gif smiley-faces7.gif
Sheomet
I'd be up for that.
shesuredoshine
It is GREAT riding. I stayed with a friend in Errol and road to Pittsburgh and back. We had the wifes and girlfriends with us so we didn't do any hardcore riding but the trails were incredable. Riding in NY most of the time I am not used to not having a bar, resturant or gas station every 15 miles but other than that it was awesome riding and spectacular views. Hopefully I can make it out again.
Fast Rider
For those of you who might not be interested in that ride...I just want you to know we aren't nailed to this plan. It is just an idea and starting point. Any ideas are absolutely welcome! (But the trails there are usually damn good!)
Another place we could meet could also be at the Pontook Damn parking lot, it doesn't matter to me.

Fast rider, I wasn't planning a ride for everyone, just simply saying what me and my crew typically do as an example to some of the guys that don't always ride in that area. I'm open to anything!!! ylsuper.gif The snow in this area is typically very dependable, and not super crowded when you go north up the center through balsams instead of through Colebrook or Errol. Moose brook is good, Pontook is good, chickwolnepy, 7-islands, etc. whichever one we have to go to based on snow conditions, its amazing the snow can vary so much in such a short distance but I've riden out of Chickwolnepy or 7-islands several times when the ground was bare down in Gorham and Berlin. i_need_snow.gif

shesuredoshine, its amazing the difference between NH and NY. I went out to tug hill a couple years back, and enjoyed it for being different but thought NH and ME were a little more to my taste. It is amazing out there how bars/pubs every 15-20 miles, not like here where you can go 75 miles or so between gas stops. I also felt like I was just spinning short loops on the hill, where here I go 100 miles out in a straight line then 100 back on a different trail. Lots, and lots of traffic on the hill too, got there on a Wednesday and it looked like Young's store in Pittsburg on President's day weekend. :frech32:
nhsledatvrider
I agree with NH rev. A lot depends on the snow. Lots of times the snow is sub par anywere south of Pittsburg before Mid January.

As time gets closer and we see what winter will bring us start posting dates and we'll have a hell of a time. :div20: :div20: :div20:
Fast Rider
Oh absolutely...I hope we get a slew of snow thisa winter!
I'll try to post a couple dates when the time comes for those who cannot make one day, maybe you'll be able to make the next.
oldtimer
I suggest we try for meeting in Errol.......Two gas stations, a Cat dealer, and a great diner- The Beggin' Dawg. Plus, the parking lot is huge, and there are several diff ways to go from there.

I tried for a NH ride last season....didn't work out well. I hope this one does. I'm in.

OT.
Jay
I'm in! Let me know where and when.

I,m sure I could make it. Mid week is always best riding.

Mid week does have the best riding but if you want a lot of people to go than a saturday or sunday would be the best.

Hey Motie! I hear they are going to give some good news at the Sat meeting @ the Swift Diamond clubhouse. Any idea what it is?

Hope to meet up with you and digger again this year.

OT.
ZR1000
I'd love to go and meet lots of new riding friends.

Big groups can get a lil tough to get good mileage in tho.

Oh BTW, Northern NH can seem very busy as compared to Quebec.

I'm still in for a NH ride tho.

:div20: buttrock.gif
motie777
I have no idea whats going on whith that as I'm currently down in VA. beach. we'll be heading home soon I'll let you know if I find out the news.
mogulmasher
Yeah I can't wait to hear what the news is too. That's my favorite riding destination, so if they could improve on an already good thing it would be awesome.
Fast Rider
Mid week is definately the best riding, but if its not during feb. vaca I am in school. Weekends would get the better turn out too.
Can't wait!

Haha! Id love to believe me, but if I miss a day I will get WAY behind with the classes I have signed up for.
oldtimer
So what week is feb vacation?

Feb is a good month to ride in Errol! We could try to plan on that week if it helps.....?
Fast Rider
It's usually the last week of february. I could probably ride almost any day too. I'll try and post some dates (maybe 2 or even 3) that way hopefully whoever wants to go during the winter will be able to make one of those dates. I'll be sure to plan on one during that vaca.

i'd be interested. Just wondering about what a 2-3 day pass for nh would be? I'd probally ride my sled over from maine, then ride back.
oldtimer
I don't think a temp pass is available....I'd just run outlaw the one time, buy a years worth if you want to ride NH again.

How much is the fine for not being registered if you get caught? Also how much is the registration fee for a year? Any places that i can get my sled registered at where i would be staying at a hotel next to where the nh ride is happening?
mogulmasher
I think the non-res sticker is something like $62 if you belong to a club, $92 if you don't. Any dealership, marina, and even some sporting goods stores sell registrations.
Fast Rider
If you were to come you would probably stay in errol which is my guess...I am sure you can register a sled there. Their website is under something like Percy Tackle. The store is called L.L. Cote "Toys for Big Boys".

Fast Rider,

I don't think I will be able to make the ride you are planning.
However, I will be in Pittsburg NH, Lopstick Lodge, in February, 14-20.
I would love to hook up with someone who really knows the trails.
I have been there in the past but we seem to keep hitting the same trails and don't seem to get many miles in as we don't know where we are going.
A seasoned tour guide would sure be appreciated.
Let me know if you would be interested in getting together in February.

gdouglas8, if fastrider can't meet up with you I could meet you and show you some of the trails. Actually I've been chatting with fastrider and he wants to hook up for a ride, so maybe he could come along as well.

I ride up there every weekend and could show you some good loops and ways around some of the high traffic areas. I could also show you some fun back country riding spots too if that is your thing. buttrock.gif

nhrev...with a pro xr 440 and a couple of yami's, interesting!!!

I would love to hook up with you.
There are actually four of us, potentially more
'02 600 xc sp, '99 indy 500, '97 ultra 700, and i usually bring up the rear(hee hee hee), last year i had an '02 zr 600 cross country efi, this year I have an '04 firecat F7 std. efi, should be interesting, I've not ridden it yet. I hope it handles nearly as well as my zr, it handled unbelievably, as long as the shocks worked.

I would love to hit the back country, low traffic loops are cool, but back country would be awesome.

I will post a message closer to the time of the trip, so, keep an eye posted in early february. Wow1.gif
Do you know where lopstick lodge is, on first connecticut lake? dunno.gif

How many miles can we expect to log in a day?

Do you get up into canada much? flag_canada.gif
mogulmasher
I actually started out on Yamahahaha as a kid, I had the 3 Doos all Mxzs ('97 583, '99 600, '01 700, '03 Rev 600 HO) before the Pro XR.

There would likely be at least two others with me, one on a '01 mxz 700 another on a '04 rev 800 HO.

I've heard of Lopstick, I think there are signs for it right off Rt. 3. I've only stayed up there on Back Lake at Tall Timber or Wander Inn.

You'll like the F7 once you get used to it, not better handling then your old ZR, but better in the big bumps and much faster.

We usually actually ride up from Milan or Gorham to Pittsburg for the day, its only about 100 mile drive to Milan from my home in southern NH so it makes it nice. We love backcountry riding its a lot of fun seeing who can go the furthest, the backcountry scenery is awesome too! We generally do about 150-250 miles in a day. I have never ridden into Canada from Pittsburg, but would like to try it this year. We usually stay up in Jackman, ME and jump into Quebec from there. Quebec rocks you need to try it out some day. flag_canada.gif

What do you mean when you say who can go the furthest dunno.gif

In order to go into quebec do you need to go through maine, if so do you need a trail pass for maine.

I'm in the process of putting a 4 wheel kit on my F7
I'll crank up the rear suspension with the rear adjuster blocks.
And, suck the front down with the limiter straps one whole, trying to keep the skis on the ground.
I have the 1.375 in track which I will stud, then run 8" carbides up front.
Trying to get it to handle.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

What I mean is who can go the furthest without getting stuck. We often find areas where there is a clearcut or something with a big hill we try to get to the top of. As you know the powder can get quite deep in northenr Pittsburg.

You can enter Quebec from NH, just never done it. You need ME registration to ride in ME. In Quebec you need a trail pass from first club house you come to on the trail to ride there. Something like $22/day or $100+/season.

4th wheel kit in firecat will take some roll out in the corners. IMO I wouldn't crank up adjuster blocks to push front end down, you'll likely affect the amount of suspension "sit in" when you sit on sled and will affect your ride quality with a stiffer ride. Try to shorten front straps first, and maybe even put a little more preload on front suspension springs, if you put too much though front end gets stiff then rolls even more in corners.

keep it updated i did somethin like this when i was in the marines with my motrocycle buddies. We met every sunday and went was the best riding i did on my bike although being in Southern California helped too. Keep this updated u will get a ton of people

nhrev,
I appreciate the insight, i will move the limiter straps then play with the front pre-load and rear "sit-in", we call it "sag"(i use to race motorcross and that is what we called it) , when I'm riding.
I ordered my 4 wheel kit and billet rear spring adjusters, from grip'n'rip racing, Tim is a cool guy.

As far as back country... :div20: count me in, quebec too. flag_canada.gif
Our lodge, lopstick, is just down the road from tall timbers.

What are your thoughts on a clutch kit, apparently the firecats over rev, quite a bit. The ODS clutch kit offers much better low end power with out allowing the sled to over rev, top end stays about the same.

-Doug
We really don't get the snow here for me to test this stuff.
mogulmasher
I have no idea on a clutch kit. The 2 F7s I've ridden with have no problem beating about everything stock!!!! boxen.gif

Hey guys...sorry I havent been on in a while...school has been fricken nutty. nhrev...yeah that would be cool if we could hook up with douglas in pitttsburg. Hey fast rider, thought we lost you!!!

Trying to get my stuff together, adding some parts to my sled.
I'm pretty psyched to hook up with you guys and do some real riding.

Yeah i thought i lost myself too...Im so busy with school and everything. I cant wait to go riding...It'll be a blast! Did some clutch work to my sled to give it a lil more zip and also a tempa flow.
