The RailRoad People removed veryangry.gif the old crossing on the 104 going from Mt.Thom to Riverdales crossing or Cambells Siding area !! We have NO way to cross the train tracks with a snowmobile ! I was out to-night with my 4-wheeler going to a lake back in that area when I came to the crossing ,it was taken out !! I had a bumby ride over the tracks with my 4-wheeler , and we all know how hard it is to cross tracks in the winter with a snowmobile , not fun at all and very dangerous !! So ,does somebody know who to contack on this problem ,cause this is the main trail in the winter to get from Mt.Thom to Sunnybray area ?? Pictou county snowmobile clubs,do you have any idea on this one little problem ?? dunno.gif Thumper
smclelan
I PMed you a name give him a call.
Thumper-2

Depending on the outcome of the Off Highway task force railway crossing may be the least of our problems!
Doo-Rider
That won't be up and running for this winter, and if it is, Fu** 'em!

Snowmobiles aren't a problem, it's the few ATV's that run the roads and in other public places.

Maybe CN needs a call?
Thumper-2
CN doesn't owne that part of the rail line ,it's a Texas company that repaires it and uses it now ,I was told dunno.gif !! Who-ever,they left all the timbers in the ditch .

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not familiar with where that is exactly (not my area), and it sounded like you were going the right route with your contacts. I think everyone from the province who is on this board cares about this stuff. :div20:

keep your fingers crossed, if u keep on hounding someone they're bound to get their a$$ in gear and fix up ur crossing!

OK, this is starting to sound serious. Time to start with the conspiracy theories. I was told tonite by someone very involved in our club that he heard today that the RR crossing on the 104 between the Lamp Cabin and the TCH (Springhill) has disappeared. Wow1.gif He seemed to think that the source was pretty reliable, but I haven't seen it myself yet or heard from other sources.

Now THIS is really a pi**er because it cost our club thousands of dollars to get CN to put it there in the first place just 2-3 years ago (which was a complete rip-off but that's another story). :banghead: He is going to get in touch with some of our club executive tomorrow about it, the right questions will be asked by the right people here, what the answers will be we'll have to wait and see. Maybe all the RR people are removing all their crossings like this because of all this OHV/ATV crap that's going on? :frech32: Hey SM, this is in your area too, maybe you guys can start the hounding too. If I can get any further info I'll pass it on. I'd like to confirm that it is really gone myself first, but I won't be able to get to it any time soon. I'll keep posted with any more news.
smclelan
I may have started this rumor. Were you talking to George or Austin? I was down there two weeks ago to look at the bridge to see the condition and what had to be done to repair it. I was talking to both guys and I think I mentioned to them that I didn't recall seeing the crossing. I hope I was having a brain fart but I don't recall seeing the timbers. I will try to get in there again in the next week or so.

No, I was talking to Alan (Mr. Snap On), he was told by somebody when he was out on his runs today that had been out there on an ATV, he told me who it was but I didn't recognize the name and don't remember it. If you cross paths with Alan any time soon, ask him about it. Kind of took me by surprise after hearing about the crossing that started this thread, and especially after all the money we sent to CN to get it put there in the first place. Bad enough having a broken bridge in there to deal with let alone the RR thing too. I'm gonna try to drop in on our ex-pres tomorrow when I'm thru town and see if he knows anything.
smclelan
I know the CN section master for the area, if need be I will give him a call.
ns503
Well, I just got in from my daily runaround. Ran into KB in Springhill, he was as surprised as I was. Ran into Alan again, he hadn't talked to anybody yet but is going to try tonite. So on the way back thru Springhill I decided to see if I could take the old ATVW (All Terrain VolksWagen) into the crossing to check it out. I made it there (a bit of a hike involved), and can confirm that the crossing is GONE. veryangry.gif There are timbers scattered around (didn't look like enough to make a crossing but they might have all been there), with spikes still sticking out of them. Just from looking at the scene it didn't look like something that CN would do, some of the timbers were still pretty close to the track and road. Maybe someone who just wanted to stem the flow of traffic thru there? Anyway, it also might hinder the bridge repair project too if it's planned to get there via the crossing. Might help to get CN input on this if you know the section master. I don't think we can afford another 3-4K to get another one put in, especially if it's going to get torn out again. :banghead:
Will call Alan again in a couple days to see what he's done and who he's talked to. This kind of stuff is very censored.gif frustrating stuff.
smclelan
I know the landowner had nothing to do with the crossing being taken out. I will try to track the section master down the first of the week. As far as the new bridge goes, it will have to come in from Springhill Jct.

:banghead: ...These missing RR crossings is going to cause a hole lot of trouble in the snowmobiling this winter !! Well have to build jump-ramps to jump over the crossings I guess ?? dunno.gif
Thumper-2

RR repair and he told me that the Riversdale snowmobile crossing has been REPLACED with NEW timbers !!!! ylsuper.gif yay2.gif Thanks to the Cape Breaton Nova Scotia Rail Road for there careing for us snowmobilers . Thumper, just got back from Cape Breton, great news on your crossing. Maybe you should keep that phone number, it might be good for future reference.

"BUT it is only 7-feet wide !!It used to be 14 feet before !"

So what are you saying, you can't be drunk and cross the tracks now at the same time?

Good news!
Thumper-2
smclelan...thanks for that number !! I will keep the name @ number for future references . The other problems up at Springhill area is under CN's control
That's right Doo-Rider...You do know that DRINKING & Driving on a Snowmobile doesn't mix !! Does your Ski-Doo need more than 7ft. or do you :frech32: ? Yes ....Good news for the trail , soo far .
Doo-Rider
Oh I know, I have never done that, and never plan on it. They go too fast to be doing that type of thing.

Rail Crossing between the TCH and the Lamp Cabin

CN has been contacted and have stated the crossing was removed by mistake. A new crossing will be put in well before snowmobile season starts. Thanks to the president of the Cumberland Snowmobile Club for his hard work!!
