I am thinking about getting a Nikon Coolpix 3100. It is a good price, 3.2 MP, and I read some great reviews. I don't want a real expensive camera, I want a smaller one that I can take hunting and Snowmobiling, and still get good quality pictures. This camera is pretty small, and is supposed to provide great pictures.
DO you think I would be better off going with a Coolpix 4300, 4MP. The it has more extensive controls, I don't want to get too complicated. Its not much more money. ANy advice?

not too sure about that camera but unless you are printing photos and want professional print quality or do a lot of photo editing the 3.2 will be fine.
if you have the option get one with a rechargable battery, last alot longer than the AA's

I have the cool pix 3100. It is a great little camera. I did alot of research and for the price this was the top one. The dial features are easy to turn. I would recommend this camera or go with the 3200 which is out now. The video mode works well also, but there is no sound. The battery lasted a while. It will run on AA's so that is a plus if you are stuck, but will eat them fast. I went with rechargeables and a year later I'm still using them. Every picture I posted on this forum were taken with my Nikon. That should speak for itself. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Zr8rider

I just got the Coolpix 3200 to replace our Coolpix 880. The 3200 is so much smaller; it will be easy to carry in my snowmobile coat pocket.
I really like it and stayed with the 3200 versus the 4200 because you can use AA batteries. The cold weather wreaks havoc on the battery life. No extra room to bring a charger on our week long trips.
I contemplated the 4200 for better picture quality, but realized with the 880 we weren't even using the highest setting. The new plan is to take the photos in the highest rez and crop'em.
Works great and easy to use, very happy with it.
Does seem to use the AA’s pretty rapidly though.
www.mwave.com is where we ordered ours from, got SD memory from Costco

I've got the 3100. Great camera and uses standard AA batteries. I always use rechargeable batteries and haven't had any problems. Great pictures and it's a nice size to carry when sledding. The 3200 is the newer version and uses a SD memory card instead of the CF type card that is used in the 3100. I'd go with the newer 3200 if the price is close. If you already have some CF cards then the 3100 makes sense.
