I have a 01 Pro-x 600. I have had the stock Ryde FX clickers valved for trail riding.
Sadly they need to be rebuilt once or twice per season.
Are there other less finicky shocks out there that I can bolt in and forget?
Thanks 2datrl dunno.gif

I have the same sled and Revalved mine for trail as well and have no trouble at all. You could go to walker evens shocks but I can't see why your shocks would be failing. What has happened to them? What oil has been used?

Goodwin performance has rebuilt them, using Tech syn seals, I do not know about oil etc. They were rebuilt in Sept. and the rears failed on my first trip in Jan. I had all four shocks rebuilt in Feb. took one more trip and when I was putting the sled away in April, felt that the rears were going or gone again.

Poo boy
What is your definition of gone? What are you using to judge that they need to be rebuilt? Just asking because I have the same ones.

I can easily push the rear bumper down with little effort. The bumper does spring back up, but my question is, is that the shocks action, the torsion springs in the skid or both?
I have been told that the shocks go soft in the warmer temps. but it was not all that warm when I put the sled away in April.
Goodwin said that if the shocks are bad when I pull them out in the Fall, they will rebuild them for free. With my last sled, I could go 2-3 years between rebuilds. My frind now owns the sled and is doing the same. I would like at least a full season from the Ryde FX or find a reasonable replacement if need be, which kind of kills the idea of the Walker Evans or Fox Float Shocks.
I'm sure that Dennis Kirk has just the ticket for $35.00 grinning-smiley-023.gif Just kidding. I'd rather ride than wrentch, thats all.

Ryde makes a fairly good shock they shouldn't be failing under normal trail riding twice a season. Yes they do need to be serviced yearly, as should every shock. The oil breaks down and needs to be changed. how did they fail the first time? Was there oil leaking out around the shaft? or did they just loose their charge? Your shocks and springs do work together if your springs are worn then the suspension won't spring back like it should.

No signs of leaks. Was riding along and blew a corner for no good reason, speed was moderate. When I got back on the sled, we noticed that the sit in was much lower. than earlier in the day. I never did ask Goodwin what they found when they did the shocks, so I do not know if it was a leak of the gas or oil. So it seems like the thing to do is have them rebuilt late in the fall and hope that they last the season. Thanks for the input.

I do not like the tech syn seals and my observation has been that I see more blow by on shocks with tech syn seals.

JB what do you use?
Thanks
jbshocks
the 2001 ryde fx you can use fox seals. otherwise for the most part I use fox in fox and ryde fx in ryde fx. If a customer wants tech syn I keep them on hand.

just the opposite here. i use tech-syn on just about all the time and have had great luck w/ them. i've seen way too many failures from the oem ACT+Fox seals. m2c.gif

I doubt that you blew a seal. More likely you cracked the brass fitting between the shock and the clicker. A known problem area on the 2001 pro x shocks.

Thanks to all. Hopefully we'll be riding on 5 months.

That's "in" 5 months, maybe less.
