SANS from the look of things is going to set out some new signage criteria soon. The Committee that was formed to to help make our trails safer and reduce trail insurance preimums have come up with some recomendations.

Adopt the assumptions made up by the OFSC to reduce their increases.

All groomed trails that have stop signs, the signs will have to be put up and a stop ahead sign put up. This is to be done by Decembeer 1st. Every club will be audited for compliance.

This is something that will be looked upon favorably by the insurance carrier. Just remember higher preimums mean higher permits. The preimum went up this year $14,000 and ther has never been a claim. SANS and all the clubs have to be very proactive on this subject. This is what is hoped to be accomplished this year, next year there will be more recomendations and so on. Beating the insurance man will be a never ending battle. Make no mistake, no insurance would ruin the sport instantly. m2c.gif

You're right, having no insurance sucks. We experienced that in NY a couple of years ago, our carrier wouldn't renew the policy, and many clubs had to close trails because their policy expired. Luckily, a new company stepped up. Our club insurance for 65 miles of trail was almost $7000. It was $1500 about 3 years ago. Again, never had a claim.

Our biggest gripe is that the Insurance companies should charge each club based on claims, traffic, etc, just like your car. Instead, the state makes all clubs pay the same per mile. Oh well, at least we got it. We are waiting for a big registration increase to help offset some of the expenses. We have to work our Butts off on fundraisers just to be able to exist.

Of course you know, if people would just be responsible for their own actions instead of being sue happy, we wouldn't need insurance!
