I have a 2004 700 XC SP with 1250 or so miles on it. I drove half of the winter using the stock set up and the belt leaves 3/8" or so witness mark on the drive clutch.

I have also raced this sled 1/4 mle on ashphalt geared down to 22-41 down fron stock 25-41 with the same problem. I have tried various clutch set ups with the same result. I have used both the team roller and butin style clutches with the same result.

Any suggestions?

Whats the current clutch set up in it now? hows the belt deflection?

Some primary clutches are not machined enough to allow this. Take the spring out, and close the sheaves all the way, and see if the belt will sit just above the top. I would not be too concerned about having it go all the way, sometimes you do not have enough belt squeeze to have it clean the clutch off. I have had many clutch set-ups which were winning set-ups, and not all of them would run to the top of the primary clutch.

the helix may be stopping the clutch from fully shifting.
machine .020" off the backside of the helix,
then use washers under the snap ring as needed.

I am currently using the old button style rear clutch. The belt diffelection may be a little bit slack, I will tighten it a little bit to see if it helps.

I will be hitting the asphalt again on July 10th and will try some of the the other folks suggestions.

I have taken the front spring out an closed the sheeves. The belt runs about flush with the outer diameter of the clutch, using an older belt. It would probably be a little over flush with a new belt.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will post any and all updates.

I fanally got to race this past weekend. We have had a lot of bad weather here on PEI this month.

I still cannot fully shift my clutches, howere I gained alot of MPH from a gear change.

On Saturday mornig my sled ran 11.24 @ 110 MPh in the quarter.

Thanks for the suggestions. flag_canada.gif
