I own a 98 Mach 1. I have put V force reeds into it and it has a B B exhaust canister.
I am looking for ways to make it faster and lighter without spending a ton
Does anyone know what i can do

make sure it is jetted correctly, clutch it and if you trail ride more than you do lake runs, gear it down a little if traction allows.

Cheapest ways to get more power:
Gut the airbox and rejet. (makes more power, but then takes a lot of time testing and tuning to get it jetted right. Also will be a little more sensitive to temperature changes..)
Re-gear it. Depending on your body weight, drop a tooth or two or three on your top sprocket. See if your clutches are shifting all the way out as it is now to see if that would help you. (also traction becomes a concern..)
Little more expensive ways:
Clutch kit
Studs
Cylinder shim & milled head (kind of a poor man's port job)
New Track (1.25" ???)
Most expensive ways (but biggest gains):
Titanium fasteners in front/rear suspension, engine, chassis.
Pipes
Porting
Nitrous
My friend's 1998 Mach Z has everything listed above done to it, except for nitrous, and I would have to say that there is just a "little" difference from stock.
Also, I would look into the Ad Boivin ETS SC-10 kit for your rear suspension. It helps out a bunch with the "kickback" effect of the stock rear suspension, and helps out with cornering, too.
Good Luck,

Aftermarket triple pipes are usually about $600-700 US per set, then add another $2-300 for silencer(s). Probably add about 5-10 hp (depends on brand), and then you'll have to do some more work to get the most out of them (reeds, airbox mods..).
Not very worth it to me. I like the sound and power of my stock triple pipes.

put stock FIII 600 pipes on it and get mirrors as you will need them tho see your buddies. We picked up 3/4 of a second in the 1/4 mile doing this on the pavement. We did nothing else except tune primary weight to the RPM needed. I wouldn't touch the air box.

take off your secondary and there is a washer behind it take that out and it gives a little more top end.
gut the air box, jet it, and play around with the clutches.
pretty much set it to run how you ride.......
