This week's photo contest subject is people/portraiture. It can be anyone, family, friend, etc. Really try and focus on your subject. Get in close, be aware of lighting and background, and try for something unique. Try to avoid using on-camera flash, as it tends to wash out features and create harsh reflections. Be aware of the dreaded "red-eye", where your subjects pupils reflect red back into the camera. Portraits are normally taken with a medium telephoto lens. The reason for this is to avoid facial distortion, (where one's nose may look unrealistically large). So be sure to back away from your subject and zoom in to fill the frame. That will give you a much more flattering portrait. Side lighting, either from the setting sun or a bright light source is best. Avoid having the sun right into the subject's eyes, as it creates a 'squinty' face.
As with last week, entries should be new photos taken this week, and post them in the digital camera photo gallery reserved for this week's contest. Winner will be chosen next monday May 31th and will receive a HCS sticker. Thanks to all submitting photos for these contests. Have fun!
