What is the best place to ride in WI? I like Racine county because you can open it up for miles on some of the open fields. East of Eagle River is awesome the only problem with the high traffic areas is the trails get so rough. The farther east the less traffic. summer_sucks.gif i_need_snow.gif

I like to ride north and east of Eagle River. I like going to the Brule River Tap for lunch they have great food. I always enjoyed going to Hiles also. It is aslo easy to get into the U.P. by foest roads and avoid a lot of traffic,

iron county IMO has the best trail network in the state and it is easy to jump up into the UP or head up to the bayfield area.

If we get snow like last year and you don't want to travel to far from Racine. N. Dane and Columbia counties are great. Well marked and well groomed. Open farm land with rolling hills and wooded sections. Beautiful riding on the west side of the counties towards the Wis. River. rockernana.gif

I like it best in Rhinelander and all the way east into florence county. Its great hitting up those trails in forest county, fun hilly area and very low traffic. I would like to check out the western part of the state this year!

Everyone gives their opinion on what's best, but I will give my 2 cents on best overall (trails, conditions, stops, grooming, trail marking, things to see, etc.) trails in the great state of Wisconsin. Even though I live in IL, I have rode almost every section of the state and I would have to say that MY favorite area would have to be western Vilas/Eastern Iron County. They seem to have great snow depth, less traffic, good elevation changes, and nice places for grub. There are some nice trails in Northern Central Vilas, but those areas tend to get lots of traffic and the trails do get a little worn down a little more and they take you into more high traffic communities.

Last year I rode Adams county and I really liked those trails, but the grooming wasn't as pristine as 'up north'. 2 years ago I rode the western part of the state (St. Croix, Pierce, and Pepin Counties) and I really liked that area too. Just wasn't as 'ideal' as Vilas/Iron UP areas.

I have also been pleasantly surprised by Dane County riding. They have an excellent trail system and by far the best trail marking in the state!

Thanks,
Nick

I only got to ride in 17 differant Wi countys last year....Mostly during the mid-week...Best overall riding was extremely close between the Racine Co area and the Adams Co area (includes the surrounding 4-5- countys) Here's a pic from Adams Co at the end of this season (March 24..??)

Dane county sounds a lot like racine co. I cant remember a better year down here. The problem up north is that the better the riding the more the people. But with out the people we have no trail systems, catch 22

We should cruise out to Kettle Moraine some day this season. Me, your bro, and BJ went out there last year, but we def should have left earlier. Would be cool to cruise through the park during the day.

Forest county, hands down!

I've ridden in Rusk, Sawyer, Price and Vilas Counties. I like the Eagle River trails but the traffic is terrible and the trails are shot by mid-afternoon. I like the Rusk-Price-Sawyer trio, especially the Flambeau River State Forest (Connors Lake, Loretta-Draper, Ladysmith etc....) Fantastic trails with light traffic. Best kept secret in the northwoods.... right out my back door wink.gif

Guys, this is a good topic! I'm sure everyone will list their ole stomping grounds as the best, which they are!
If I had one last place to ride, it would be the Cheq Nat'l Forest north of Hwy 2 in Bayfield County. As long as there's snow, and my feet are on the running boards, that is my favorite place for that moment. Iron cty rocks too. So does Sawyer. So does southern Pierce, Pepin, etc. Get the picture!?

I'm pinning this.

i like to start in northern oconto county and head north through forest county.

Y-Not-Here is also a good place for lunch and Denny at the Envoy bar is normally our last stop before going back. Have a cabin about 10 miles North East of Alvin so know that area well. Great area to ride and normally lower traffic, but it’s been picking up the last few years.

As far as picking the best area to ride it’s hard to put a finger on that one. Had great riding at one time or another throughout the state and have also had some terrible rides in these same areas.

I love this area(Nicolet National Forest)! My favorite ride is from Wabeno up around the loop to Alvin/Nelma area and back. Also Florence County and northern Marinette County have very good trail systems with low traffic and can turn into no mans land at times (mainly Florence County).

Hey all,

Am I the only one that loves riding in the Coulee Region? You can't beat the hills in Vernon, Sauk, Monroe, and Richland Counties. My favorite trail is heading east out of Elroy. The scenery is beautiful and the hills are huge!

Vilas..... Go figure!! biggrin.gif

I live in the Dells. A trail goes directly in front of my house. I can just gas and go. I like to head north into Adams county. There trails are scenic and well groomed. Lots of gas and food stops too. Plus, it seems like there is never any heavy traffic on the trails here. They will get groomed and stay nice for over a week! If I make a trip...I'll take the Eagle River area.
