I am coming from 5 years and 8000+ miles of Yamaha and trying to learn about my new edge X (02 800). I love the ride but feel much more body roll and eventually inside ski lift on high speed turns than I am used to.
My polaris freinds say it corners great and feels good to them. I suspect it is just ride hieght bcz of the great 14 inch of rear travel.
Anyone else have these handling concerns, and if so what adjustments to look at? Is there a heavier sway bar? does it make a diference? front shock preload changes, It appears the previous owner tightened up bothh sides. I would think this would help.
I am not talking about under acceleration, this occurs even while breaking into the apex not only related to weight shift while accelerating out of corner - of course more pronounced with weght shift.
Just day dreaming of riding and wondering if anyone else has been able to tighten this up with out ruining some other ride charactoristic.
THanks

on my 01 800 i moved the rear stops to high for less weight transfer this did seem to help even while not accelerating i also backed off the preload on the front track shock almost all the way and the ski shock preload was softened when i got it and i stffened it a bit but am probobly still softer than stock and i am using motocross handle bars that are straighter than stock and wider with a 2.5 inch rise but they dont come back like the stock handle bars do you will see this if you take the pad off the handle bars let you lean into the cornerss and sit forward more which helps cornering alot

What trump said, but I'd leave the bars stock. The edge should corner fairly flat. Trump was assuming you have an edge skid in the rear. If you have an M10 you are going to notice a little more body roll. There is also a front end kit made by ED Bovin you can buy for the edge sleds that lowers the center of gravity in the front. It does decrease ground clearance in the front, but most people don't have issues with this. Rob the HCS site owner did this to his edge sled two years ago and has pictures and his thoughts on this on the polaris tips and how to's page. There is a link on the left side of the main page for HCS. He also has suspension setting recommendations there. You should check it out.

If your not a ditch powder put the AD bovins front end kit in! I have the 5/8" bar in my xc-8 it helps a little but the sled just sits so high I feel this is more the problem! the Fox shocks on the front of the 2001 xc's are junk get a set of rydes off a 2002 and newer there MUCH better! the rear track shock if its a PPS fox shock is junk in stock valveing... A clicker is much better suited to a hard rider over 200lbs! with just a liitle tuneing the xc can be a good ditch banger.... or left close to stock a ride smooth all day! stock jetting is a little fat , drop 2 sizes from stock and drop the needle 1 clip for -10*f to 20*f at 500~2500' above sea level!

one more thing with those carb setting you should get just about 12 mpg!

Try Putting more preload on rear suspension. I was having the same problem with my edge. I put more preload on rear springs and it planted the skis much better. Apparently the chassie was piviting on the front track spring causing the skis to lift in the corners.

Thanks guys, I have an edge rear not M10 and my rear spring is -soon to be was -soft so I think lar,550 is on to something. Noe that I think of it it did seem to be pivoting over the center.
Thanks

Yamadoo I backed off on the center spring and pulled up on the limiter straps 1 hole on my edge. Its a ballanceing act between heavy steering and front end push.... I tried lighter rate spring with a heavy 5/8" bar that seamed to help some ,It made it ride better and still handle the same or slightly better. It was hard to compare the snow was getting wet (end of the season). I have C&A pro skis with 10" of carbide to make sure I can turn..... extra steering carbide is nice on icy corner, with 96 studs the back is still alittle loose and can be tosted around but the front end is glued and goes to where you point it.
