Considering installing an SLP pipe set up for my '04 700 XC. The mechanic at my dealer tells me it is the best mod that money can buy. He installed several on DET 700 & 800's this winter and claims it makes a big difference with no risk of engine problems (minor jet adjustments). Anyone have any experience with this? Appriciate your comments.

most any single pipe will provide the same level of reliability... slp is a quality piece, dynoport will make better hp though and is an equally quality piece...

Do you have one? How Much of power are you talking? Same for the 800?

i have a Hot Seat single currently, which has performed very well... i'm moving to twins next season on my pro so i've sold it... but it worked very well... several dyno reports have shown the dynoport to make more power (albeit, only slightly more peak) and have a better curve thru the midrange... if they made on for my pro i would have bought that instead... slp is good stuff though and there is no "shame" in going that route... if they made twins for my sled i'd give them a look... right now dynport twins are about the only ones made for the pro-x, and that is a good thing since Rich make a good product

Al I have one on my 01 800 (non-valve) sled and like it just fine. Better bottom and mid range, It is slightly louder than stock, but, not bad. I bought it used, new ones are kind of "pricey". Mike D.

I bought one used at the start of the season and paid $300 bucks for it Can. its on a 2000 700 non valved and yes i do see a difference and its not much louder than stock , i do find it runs better when its crisp out but on warmer days its a little bit of a dog ! Maybe i will try to rejet it next year. Slp claims 10hp increase but i think its closer to 7hp..
Hey howcome your not ridding this weekend in mt valin ! ? I got 2 buddies that left this morning .

It was my first time using S.L.P. (cause it being a cat) went with their
twins after dynoing three makes and it claimed 10...we got 10.5 h.p
so I was sold !!Fit and finish is awsome.

Tony are you concerned with the exhaust noise in Wi? Whose twins? Stock can? Be very carefull. In mid February I was with several Doo riders that were ticketed this year just ouside of Mercer, by the outlet wharehouse. A known DNR checkpoint. Sled had stock pipe with aftermarket muffler. The law is vague. One DNR officer interpets that ANY change is illegal, even if not louder. One guy says as long as its NOT louder. The guy that got ticketed said he wanted a test. They said OK, we will impound your sled and will test it in March or April. He paid the fine on the spot. Myself and several others were waiting about a 1/4 mile down the trail. If he would have poped my hood he probably would have nailed me also. I seen it as you could lose the battle {impounded sled means season over} but win the war later on. Tough call.

rd, i think your buddy should have called his bluff on the test... DNR officers are supposed to carry equipment to test that now since the laws have be changed... at one point the law did read that any change from stock, even if it was quieter, was illegal... now that they have standardized the testing procedure and have a method for field testing the laws have be changed to reflect that, at least that is what i've understood them to be... i don't think the cop wanted to run the test 'cuz if your buddy passed he'd look like an idiot... the reason for the field test is so they don't have to impound anything... besides, what's the point of writing a ticket and then letting him ride away while the problem still exists??? i'm only mildly concerned about it at this point since the twins i'm looking at are pretty mild in sound and by some accounts barely louder than stock...

The officer plainly stated that he didn't have a meter. Ticket was supposedly wrote with the "I'll fix it when I get back to motel". Like I said why ruin the season. Barely louder? As db's go only 2db louder is like twice as loud, or so I'm told.
bonz50
in absolute terms, 10db is technically twice as loud from an SPL standpoint (Sound Pressure Level)... it is an exponential scale... 3db is an audible difference in volume and 6db sounds twice as loud to the human ear... for 2db i'd go for it... reason being that there are MANY stock sleds out there that are louder than what my current sled is now anyway... fwiw - I had an exhaust leak between my pipe and can this last ride to crandon with matt and the guys (i had the pipe off while i was working on it and did not use exhaust sealant)... and there was a noticeable difference in sound levels, huge!!! i'm surprised i didn't get a ticket even though we rolled past dnr a couple times over the course of that trip... if they would let that slide, they either did not care or it was not as loud as i had suspected...

Key word=Stock a jerk DNR can burn you
bonz50
true, but my sled is not stock now??? so why not eh???

Stay awy from the spot I mentioned and the transformers just outside of Manitowish Waters, trail that runs over to Chucks. What brand twins?
bonz50
considering dynoport, but am also looking at a modified set of cpi's as well... hot seat also has some, but they aren't listing a price on the website, so those are always a possibility depending on how they price out
