Talk about a dumb move. Trade Brett Farve?!?! Who would have thought? All I have to say is either the current management is dumb as hell, or there is a lot more then what most of the fans are seeing.
slickwilly08
I'll go with 9-7
jakecase
lets be real... I'm a brett favre fan but.... hes only got a year maybe 2 left, still don't know how you dismiss a guy that gives you the better chance to win? Guy did awesome things here!!! Tompson were pissed he came back after they went out and drafted 2 QBs. Pack will go 10-6 (if rodgers stays remotely healthy) and the year after this will begin there downfall. Its gonna be back to the old days of struggling to even get a 8-8 record.
dt6957
The Packers have basically given the NFC to the Cowboys again this year.....SWEET!!!!!

But in reality it wouldn't have mattered whether they kept Favre or not!!

After 16 years you don't have to dismiss him.. He will dismiss himself called Retirement.. I don't get how you can just let someone after 16 years say your not welcome here bla bla bla.. I think the only reason why brett wasn't welcomed back is because Ted Thompson picked up Rodgers and Thompson was too selfish to let brett back so he could prove his point.. Packers made a big mistake and its ganna show this season.. I know the packers had to move on but when your verterain player comes back you better welcome him back with open arms.. I can not see Brett playing for another team because I only seen 1 quarter back in the packers history since I have been born which is Brett.. Good luck Brett I'll try to see your games when possible who ever it maybe for Jet, Bucs, Vikings.. I know that it might be set and stone for the Jets but I am going to say it is far from over.. Brett will only play the next 2 season maybe 3.. Another thing is now the packers are going to be like every other team and be getting a new starting quarter back every year..

RODGERS YOUR GANNA GET HURT AND PEOPLE ARE GANNA BITCH CUZ WE DON'T HAVE BRETT FAVRE MAY THE LEGEND LIVE ON !!!

Packers have the ball,It's 1st & 10-he is back to throw... incomplete pass. Now it's 2nd & 14 -he tried to run up the middle and that was for a loss on the play.Packers are going to have to make a play here...Oh! he was sacked, now it brings up 3rd & 19.He had to throw it away from the pressure that was coming on the corners. It' 4th down they are going to have to punt it AGAIN......

Sorry, I think I was having a flashback to Packer glory days from the 70s-80s wall.gif
I hope the packers do well, but I just have a bad feeling about this season.I hope I'm proven wrong.
Trailboss77
You know, at one time, Wisconsin people were noted as being avid Packer fans no matter how good or bad they were. It seems there are a lot of fair weather fans here now. Fuck the Jets, Vikings, Bears, Cowboys and all that other shit. GO PACK!!!!
willy291
Trading Farve was a stupid move, i guess every team in the division is on an even keel, they all suck. As much as i hate to admit it I watch the Lions and we always knew one thing, they were going to get their asses handed to them by Farve when the Pack came to town. The Lions,Bears and Pack will be battling to see who can finish last in the division.
wiguy05
Trading Favre was a SMART move. I don't care how well he did in the past, he is a cancer to any team he is on now. He only wants to be back in the spotlight and is making an ass of himself in the process. Hell he already stated he isn't sure if he should've came back! Who wants a guy like that on their team?

I bet you didn't feel like that when he was putting the ball in the endzone yelrotflmao.gif

I have a question for you guys. Granted, last night was a preseason game etc..., but with all the controversy right now, why didn't McCarthy try like hell to win this first game? To me, if you would have went out and won that first game, I think you would have turned a lot of the Farve fans back to Packer fans or at least made them happier about the decision to trade him. Damn, I just really think the Packers management sucks right now.

No one gives a shit about pre-season games....

Exactly what I was going to say... I didn't get a chance to watch the game, nor have I heard how well each team played.

However, I personally know I am a PACKERS fan, and not solely a Favre fan. I always have been and always will be rooting for the team as a whole.

As far as Favre's history goes, yes he was an incredible quarterback in his day, but as of recently his mental stability is seriously in question. I just can't see someone wanting someone as undecisive as Brett is on their team. Team morale is a huge factor.
Racer254

Tell that to the Patriots. Seemed like it mattered when they wanted to go undefeated. If a team goes 0-4 in the preseason or a team that goes 4-0, which would you rather root for? Regardless, Farve is gone. But I really get sick of that saying about pre-season. I think this year would be a perfect opportunity in the pre-season to give T,M & M a solid showing that they are here for the Packers and not their own egos.

I have lost a lot of interest in all Wisconsin sports teams over the years (including the packers). To expensive to watch them in person, and I'm to cheap to get cable or satalite to watch them on TV. So unless they are doing well I don't tune in anymore. Got a family to run.

To answer the topic question 8W -8L (yup i am really going out on a limb on this one)

I agree,

Brett is awesome and you cant deny that. Just the way he went about this whole deal made him look bad, he lost a lot more fans than he gained in my opinion. You ball your eyes out like a 5 year old girl in march and then a few months later expect to stroll in and have everybody drop everything just because you have an itch. Still a packer fan regardless what they do, I think the pack did the right thing. I feel bad for brett but he brought it on himself. JMO

Before anyone goes trashing brett or the pack, remember there are two sides to every story. we have not even heard the entirety of either side. IMO brett was forced into making a decision right after the season was over. i believe that he made his decision based on what was best for the team at that time. when you get to the point in his career it's hard to know in march if you will be dedicated to playing in august. you have nagging injuries that don't heal as fast as they used to. i can see where he is coming from when he says that. after agreeing with that, what would be better for the team? stick around and realize you don't want to be there after the draft and free agency are completed. or, retire and see what happens? it's not like they went out and drafted rodgers this season. it's not like they spent the $12M brett would make on other players. i could see agreeing with the pack if they had taken that $12m salary of bretts and invested it into other free agents. but that didn't happen. you can't tell me they didn't want him back because they told rodgers he was the starting qb and don't want to take that away from him. it was okay to tell him he wasn't as good as brett 6 months ago, why not now? i think the pack really dropped the ball on this one. they let mr. packer go to another team, while he still can play at a higher level than his replacement.

Having said this, i am a bears fan. i have a love/hate feeling towards brett. i love to watch him play unless he's playing the bears. all you packer fans need not worry. while brett is a far more superior qb than young rodgers, the team might be better now. the offense will not be based on the qb. it should revolve more around the running game. you have a real fine rb in grant. a pretty darn good o-line. very good receivers. and a more than serviceable, imo, qb in rodgers. if they run the ball effectively and use it to set up the pass, they will keep the defense off of the field and wear down opposing defenses. that is how i'm expecting them to beat the crap out of the bears this season. expect your defense to be in the top 5-8 in the league this season. hawk will have a fantastic season. rodgers will probably make a pro bowl in a conference with not much going for it in the way of qb's.

The way that they are playing tonight they deserve to be 1-15!
F-7 Dude
Rodgers has 2 years left on his contract, he studied under Favre for 3 years. Time to use him. It's a business not a poop shoot. Seems there are so many quarterbacks, general managers here and everywhere. Why don't any of you go get a job managing a NFL team? Because you don't know enough dude!
Damn right the Pack wanted a early answer to Favre and his retirement antics, enough is enough!
He could have come back as a back up, we need to play Rodgers to see how good he really is. The management knows, trust me on this! Coming off a 13-3 season, it's a year for 10-6 even with Favre, so really time to play your young quaterback, and then wait until after the draft to want to play? after they drafted 2 quaterbacks? Thats why Favre is playing in NY. Simple! It was time to move on. He gave us 10 wonderful years. Not 16, I lived thru those horrible games, every team has them. He also became a multi millionaire. So while we argue about favre? he's sitting on millions, flies around in a lear jet, has a palace in Miss for a home, Ya poor brett Favre. LOL
Octane
Based upon what I saw last night against the 49ers, its gonna be a loooooong season. Granted, some of the key starters didnt play and Rodgers is still learning, but Id say it will be a huge achievement if the Pack even makes the playoffs this year.
I still think they made the right choice trading Favre (Favre's gunslinger ways lots them just as many games as it won them, its time to move on and I think we all had enough of the retirement drama every year) but this team needs to pull their heads out of their you-know-whats if they want to make any noise this season.

You need to keep in mind they played 2nd and even 3rd string guys in this game. Like it was said earlier, pre-season games don't mean squat. It's just a testing bed to see whats going to work and what new guys are going to stay.
Wiscdave
Thompson and McCarthy are morons!! They should have played Favre till the end, he was on the field and they drove him out of town.

The way they have played thus far, I dont think Favre would have made any difference.
