I'm thinking about taking mine off as my sled starts faster with the rope. I hate to hear a starter whirl for more than half a second and this one takes 3-5 even when warm. I asked my dealer if removing it would require me to change anything in the wiring harness (like would the sled be trying to charge a battery that was no longer there and burn something up) and he said no, that I could just remove the battery, cables, starter+drive and that all theother electrical parts were the same with the non-electric start models. less the key swith. I think you should be able to do it easy enough. the front motor mount will need to be chaged, I belive, to one that will support the starter drive gear. You'll need a ring gear too.
