so what is involved with the 08's for conversion. i know it needs a big tank but what elese? do you need to modify the seat like you did on the older models?
HIGH FLYER SNO-PRO RIDER
I just got one a couple days ago and the seat and everything feels fine to me. i'm not sure yet if you have to cut the seat to make the 11 gallon tank fit or not. turn the dial on -3 to run 93 oct. I have got to figure out the whole jet needle thing yet. Find somewhere to carry oil.
snofevr083
you do not need to cut the seat to fit the 11 galloon tank. high flyer, if you look at the back and sides of you seat, whre it goes up by the tank, its all velcro, undo that and your seat cover will come off, this takes the whole seat cover and foam right off. there is a metal wire connected to 2 loops on your seat cover that goes through your seat foam, you have to remove the metal wire from the 2 loops on your seat cover to get the seat foam off, but this is not necesary for adding the larger tank. after you get the foam off you will thee the diagonal bracing going from the steering post to the tunnel, holding the gas tank on, take that off, then there are i think just 2 bolts holding the tank on, then it should come right out. you can order the 11 gallon tank from cat. as for the rear part of the tunnel, there is an updated piece for that, its just the rear 2 feet, from where the spar splits the tunnel. i think i paiod $180 for mine through my dealer, order that quick as i know they were a limited build. hoods are cheap enough also if you want to order one of those, under $200 i wanna say
HIGH FLYER SNO-PRO RIDER
Ya i just ordered my rear tunnel piece today. I only paid $178 for mine tho! lol My dealer knows me pretty good and they gave me a whopping $34 off my bill! I have got a coolant leak tho that will not go away!!!! The front heat exchnger is updated and i also ordered that short hose for underneath the bottom end today. I am going to put a better clamp on it and hopefully that works.
snofevr083
i put an updated heat exchanger on mine and it still leaked, dont trust it, i would almost put money on that being it

Well the heat exchanger is $100, and $100 bills are hard to come by now that i bought the sled. Arctic Cat doesn't cover that do they?

no, just have it welded

what is wrong with the rear part of the tunnel?

they are pretty flimsy, and it doesnt take much to beat them up and get them all twisted up and out of shape

Why help this guy (tbeaton) out? A quote from "tbeaton" taken from dootalk yesterday. "who cares, arcticats productions sleds are made out of legos and we all know how those hold up. it may be able to go fast ( eventually) but it will probably fall apart getting there. "
Go back to dootalk.
F250
anyone try and connect oil injection up yet?
DGC3
oil injection can't be done...I wish people would stop asking about it.

I know it take a whole 3 seconds to pour oil in at the gas station

There are some nice 2-up sleds that have all the bells n whistles.....you should check those out

I don't see why you can't put oil onjection on it. The mount ,or whatever you want to call it, is already notched out a little. I bet if you twist it just right you could get the pump on there. If i didn't sell my oil injection i would've tried it when it was apart. What size mains are supposed to be in there? I gotta figure how to carry oil in the sled also.
skidooman383
Well I just recently got my 2008 that I'm going to trail convert. I've been reading alot on here and have thought about a few ideas. One I'm planning on making a bracket on the A frame right next to the CDI box to keep normal tools. Then I'm going to just carry a spare belt on the tunnel. However I would like to come up with something to hold a quart of oil. Has any one come up with a solution to this.

Second what type of extra rear idlers are you guys running. Are most of you running one extra set in the middle by the front shock or more then that.
HIGH FLYER SNO-PRO RIDER
I am planning on either making a rack for the back or buying one somewhere. I am going to make it so i can haul an avalanche shovel, small gas can, oil, tools, and a belt. Perhaps a rope also so i can pull in all the dead poos and doos.

I didnt realize premix is so much easier at a fillup. Maybe if you ride to empty then fill up, but if you have an unknown amound of gas in the sled, stop at the pump on the way by its a pain in the ass. Maybe a little engineering and you could be hassle free.

simple just make achart with how much oil you need for X amount of gas. fold it up keep it in you wallet. before you knwo it you will know it with out even looking. or just know how much oil per gallon.

If it's such a hang up for you, buy a touring sled. You've brought this premix/oil injection thing up enough.

Exactly.
skidooman383
I did premix for years on my old 2000 MXZX race sled that I trail rode. It is very easy, start with an empty tank fill it up gallon by gallon and mark a line at each gallon. Then when your out riding you look and can see I need X amount of gallons. Look at your little chart in your pocket and put in X amount of oil in then top it off with gas. Not to much hard about that. May take an extra minute but if your that concerned you shouldn't have a race sled.
HIGH FLYER SNO-PRO RIDER
WTF is so hard about making a chart and taping it to your handlebar pad or your dash. When you fill the sled up the pump will tell you EXACTLY how much gas you just put in the tank. I have never been to a pump w/o a gallon gauge to tell you how much gas you bought. SO LOOK AT THE PUMP, LOOK AT THE CHART, AND DUMP THE OIL IN ACCORDINGLY. I have a Amsoil bottle that holds 32 oz and is clear on the side to see how much oil you have in the bottle. I did this with my last 440 and i just made another chart on the computer and put it on the 08 today. Then i will put the oil caddy right under the seat on the tunnel.
zr1600
or just start racing instead of wasting time trail riding.
F250
you have never seen a pump without the gallon guage ? I have its called BROKEN. There are alot of backwoods places that have pumps like that, you need to get off the kiddie circle trails a bit more and spread out to ride. Thanks for the input from the not so sarchastic bunch on here.

kiddie circle? i dont much blame the kid dude, its a walk in the park, its not even hard to estimate how much gas you got. like was said above, if you want a sled with all the goodies go buy a touring sled. the '08 is so nasty you wont think twice about havin to premix the gas to grab another handfull of the throttle
catch847
I premixed all last year on my 05 was easy hell once you memorize the ratio's. I just wore a back pack with what i need and a measuring cup. When in dought I added a little more oil. Better to blow a plug than an engine, my 2 cents.

So are they giving you this gas? or is there a price per gallon? shouldn't be rocket science but i can see your really struggling with this premix thing so clearly the new sno pro is not the sled for you.

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or anything. I was just trying to help you out w/ the whole premix thing. I personally don't mind it and actually prefer it over oil injection. I think that the chart taped to your dash and have an Amsoil bottle that you can see through makes a lot of difference. And if you want to get off that lil F7 of yours and go backwoods riding then stop by sometime and i'll take you for a spin around the neighborhood. My 70 yr. old grandpa rides an F7! Real men ride 08 sno pros!
skidooman383
F250 I was looking back at some old posts and I found that you had already been asking about oil injection on this sled last March.

08 Sno Pro trail set up

Also again why are you so worried about looking at a gas pump to know how many gallons of gas you put in. These tanks are clear, that means you can see in them! If you had made a mark on your tank where each gallon would be you can just look at your tank and see how many gallons you need. This is not rocket science no matter how hard you try to make it be. I'm not trying to be an ass but its not that complex.
F250
I have done premix before on a 79 jag along time ago, tank wasnt clear though. Thanks for the input, I have been really holding out for one of these thats why I didnt order a new 800 this year and kept my F7, but its getting time, I am getting bored with the same sled and want something that not too many people have. All last year I only saw 1 snopro, and I saw him 3x, it was the same kid. The sled was nice.
DGC3
Dude, when you go to the gas station, you're bound to have 1-2 gallons of gas left in your tank. So when you fill up, put in exactly 8 gallons, then just pour 1 quart (32 oz.) of oil in your tank and call it a day. It probably takes less time to do that than to open your hood and check your oil resivoir and top that off.

notice i said production sleds, not race sleds. i'll go where ever i want to go, i'm on this website, dootalk, arcticchat and others. i'm not a die hard doo fan so calm the fuck down. i won't buy a cat consumer sled i have seen to many of them fall apart. that doesn't mean i won't buy a race sled, i have heard nothing but great things about them.
