I got a guy who wants to trade his indy 500 for my zrt. I don't know much about the 500 efi, sounds like it is reliable and runs good. My zrt 800 is too big for my son and has 7000 miles on it. So I'm considering the trade. The Indy 500 has 3800 miles and runs good, so I'm going to check it out this Sat. Any info on these 500 EFI would be great!

Good luck finding parts if needed for the 500 EFI, they quit making them for a reason, lots of problems, I fix sleds for a living, 35 years now, avoid it.

Is that all 500s or just the efi model?

EFI's,,, the 500 was one of the best trail sleds Polaris ever built, the EFI had problems. Some had good luck with them, but try now to get parts, I converted several to carbs with good results.

Thanks for the info, doesn't sound like its worth the hassle if it broke down. I looked into engine parts and only found years 92 on for the efi. jeremy

The 500 started in 1989, the first EFI was 1992, although you could get carbs ones also.

91 was the first year of the 500 EFI. However it was hard to find one. I have seen 2. The ones I saw had SPx on them. I have a pink and black 92 that to this day has less then 2500 miles. Everyone one of them has been a blast but I just enjoy riding the big sleds more. I would love to pick up a 650 RXL EFI though.
