I am looking into buying a new four wheeler next year. I have my eye on a 2007 leftover can am 800 which is a sweet ride. I've heard its faster than Arctic Cat's 1000 and am just looking for some opinions and if anyone has lined up these quads in some drag races. I've heard good things about the Can Am Outlander 800 and am looking for some pros and cons also. Do they get decent gas mileage like the ski doo sleds? Are they good in the big mud puddles ETC? Thanks for any info.

Quadzilla. 500cc 2 stroke. I wish I had a chance to ride one. I would go with the Cat because all of Cats sleds are the fastest, so I would imagine there quads would be the same grgrin.gif

Good question, I was wondering which was faster myself!
flexski
Bone stock my 800 Outty is about 2mph slower then the 950 kitty in a straight line, when out on the trail thats when the handling of the Can-am realy sets the two wheelers apart, and gas milage is around 35 mpg, not sure about T-cat. The Can-Am in mud and water is superior. In 2009 Cam-Am 800r will be the same Hp of the T-cat 1000. Hope this helps.

If you want speed your looking at the wrong thing you silly goose. You need a raptor 700r, or a 450

You hit the nail on the head here. We have a 1989 Quadzilla 500 that still had the origional plastics, decals, tires, seat cover, EVERYTHING on it when we bought it used with less than 10 hours on it. To get back on topic, go with the Cat.
awful knawful
I'm a honda guy but of those 2 I would go with the Can Am. I heard the t cat having a few problems first year out.

if you're worried about which is faster you're looking at the wrong type of machine. neither of those machines handle well enough for the power they produce.

I beat a modded suzuki R450 quadracer with my stock t-cat. Arctic cat has always been good in mud, if you plan on going deep you may want to look into a snorkle.

Thanks for the info. 35 MPG is sweet. No wonder the Yoopers I know use them as a car. I'm leaning towards the Can Am cause I have dealers near my house in Wisconsin and IL. What are people getting these quads for? I looked at an 07 Outlander 800 without winch for 7000.

Tcat is governed at 75 MPH some have gone faster (80-82) from the factory, but these things are way detuned. They have had them over 100mph at the factory but had to govern them because of laws and they were having trouble blowing the clutches apart and that speed, but like I said if CanAm comes out with something quicker dont worry Cat will bump the power up and take the reins again. BUT I think everyone can agree none of these wheelers are going to handle very great at these speeds.

is it possible to take the governor off?

Ive beat a couple renagade 800's, and t-cats wth my stock yfz. They wont beat a modded ltr.... Depending on the mods if it was a cherry bomb, and baffle removed, your gonna loose, stock ltr you will win
lauriat
Polaris 525 predator with the ktm motor?

The other guy we were riding with had a yfz, it wasnt even as fast as the suzuki, we didnt race to far though, a few hundred feet

If you're looking for a fast quad, a big heavy 4x4 isn't it. Get a 450 or 700 sport quad.

Haha utility's will always be slower when going fast

I have lots of seat time on a 800 can-am. Nice trail quad lots of power but doesnt brake or handle well enough for the power it makes. I rode a t-cat and it felt pretty much the exact same for power. The only thing about the can am I dont like is the visco lock front diff. I wish there was a full lock option.
runoverdaamish
700 grizzly all the way!!!

Arctic88
I beleive the fastest would be the 850 XP Sportsman.
Fennsz
Ask anyone on this site, I am sure they will tell you the ultimate F7, oh, wrong topic, umm....I think.

I highly dought you will see the new 850 beating out the thundercat or the new 800r outlander, but i guess we will have to wait and see when it is released....From what ive seen polaris has never been the king of speed when it came to their utility's

I guess I don't understand the obsession. Who really cares how fast a big heavy 4x4 quad can go? Its like talking about whose 3/4 ton 4x4 truck goes the fastest when you're better off in a sports car. I've ridden the big bore utility quads and I think they are boring. I'll take a sport quad any day. Apparently I just don't understand.

Would you rather go fast on this?

Or this?

neither their skidoos
in-mn
canam setup to be racier. Better susp, etc.

However AC has speed with work utility.

Honestly though, I have a 4x4, and they are fucking dull. Mudding, etc, doesnt take speed.

It is funny when you drive over 4' tall downed trees, etc. But 10 miles on 4x4 feels like a boring 50 on a sled.

if you want speed get a dirtbike. If you want 4 wheels, get a sport quad.

Lets see a little sport quad follow a big 4X4 through a swamp whistle.png

This quad made good power on the Dyno and the owner did a excellant job with putting this thing togather.

Thanks Dave!
While it may not be the fastest quad it does pretty good, best so far this year is 4.07 @ 79mph in 300ft.

Dave's Dyno showed it at 175hp on 93octane gas not bad for a stock zr900 motor with bored carbs, twin pipes and a advanced ignition curve.

Haha My next door nieghbor has a 1990 lt500r i rode it around his yard one time for a split second best feeling ever i can only imagine in the dunes or trails witht hat thing.

if you want speed, you need a 2 stroke sport quad. Modified banshees are incredibly fast. If you got an old banshee chassis, and put in a 421 cheetah cub motor, the thing would rip. Those motors will break 100hp no problem, and are still rideable.
