Full Version: Converting 440 to 600 VES w PERC

Hi, I just a IQ 440 2006 last week with the plans to convert it to 144" trail and 600cc.
But I have a bounch of questions which I hope you gurus can answer wink.gif

It seems that the 600 cylinders from 2000-2002 have the same VES-housing as the 440.
And the dynocharts doesnt seem to differ so much against the newer VES or the HO so is the old 600 cylinder a good pick and do I need to change the guillotine (and can I keep the housing)?
Second does anyone know which heads work with the 00-02 cylinders, is it only the one from those years or can I search for example 2003 heads?

I already own a Prox 600 2003 on which I installed perc last winter and I'm now planning on installing it on my IQ instead, this should work on the older 600 cylinders also right?
The cylinders are similar betwen the 02 and the 03 from what I can see but I cant find any information about this. Also do I need to change in the clutching to make the perc work?

And since I already have alot of parts needed from the perckit like oilpump, cdi and so on a find that converting the 440 is a better choice then buying a complete engine right? Just need to confirm my thoughts wink.gif

Any thoughts about my plans would greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Alex

I think you would be cheaper to just buy a 600 and drop it in there. A 600 ves will work you just need the correct spacers. Or the 600 HO will bolt in perfect. You can search the forum about installing the 600 ves in an IQ. You can't just drop any 600 cyls on the 440 bottom end whether its the 600 ves or the 600 HO cylinders. Will not work! You will need new cdi, bigger carbs, and machine the case the right height so the cylinders will work. You still need to worry about an oil pump on the 440 bottom end I am not sure about in Sweden. But you can pick up complete 600's for less than $1000. As for clutching you will need to clutch it for the 600, ie.. heavier weights, and a helix with reverse on it. Hope this helps. Carls cycle had made a kit last year to bolt 600 cyls or 660 cyls specifically on the 440 bottom end. I dont' think they made to many and I am unsure if they are still making them. I know they sold out quick. But that kit was like $1500 or so??

Pull the 600VES from the ProX. Then follow the instructions in the post pinned at the top of this forum. Everything you need is there, it reads like a manual on how to do the swap.

Thanks for the replys!

lilindy500: I already have oilpump, cdi, wireharness and many smaller parts needed from my perc conversion on my ProX so I will need new cylinders, carbs and boots and a new head. I have found carbs for 100$, remanufactured cylinder for 200$ (need one more) and a 600 head for 75$. And I've read about needing the spacer and adjusting the crankhouse for the pistons to match the 600 cylinders. But I have contacts that should fix this quite cheap.
So i'm pretty much set on converting the 440 crankhouse but I want to confirm that my thinking are right about perc working on the IQ and the other things I listed in the first post. Also if anyone has tips about the conversion, I know there already are floods of informhttp://www.hardcoresledder.com/forums/index.php?act=post&do=reply_post&f=205&t=344388#ation in the pinned threads and other threads and I have read them all but it just feels better to doublecheck grgrin.gif

Perc on the 440 converted motor or on the IQr. Both of mine have perc, as long as you have the R type helix it's a non-issue.

I'm interested to hear how the conversion comes, I have considered doing the same with a 440 lower end that I have.

Well sounds like you got most of it lined up already. Having someone to do the machine work will help out a lot as well. While your at it maybe you want some 660 cyls and head? I will be taking mine off and selling them and putting my stock top end back on to sell my 600 motor to my younger bro. I am gonna get a bigger motor for myself.

Sounds like it won't cost you much to do this swap so yoru probably better off this way. Good luck with it and make sure we get to see the results!

How much for the 660 cyl and pistons?

I have a 660 VES less than 5 hours on the engine, just nikasiled, good compression, crank trued and bearings checked. That is still in my IQ, I would sell it w/everything to install in a IQ for $1300.00. Not the pipe. Have a Neils Power Pipe for sale also. Can still here it run now. Going to take out this week. Have video clips.

P.S. Sorry to jump in the thread. I just see where you going, and by the end of it your almost better buying another complete engine.
